Is the footage loaded on the laptop or are you linked to an external drive? Many times the external drive connection is not fast enough to supply the footage real time to Premier Pro and can stop the playback.

There are rumors that the cameras come with a software bundle that will make the files usable on current NLE’s but Canon has not confirmed exactly what is in the bundle.

I didn’t know if it was a spin on an older Codec we could already handle or a brand new one. It stated that it is in a “MXF file wrapper” to integrate with “existing infrastructure”. If I’m not mistaken isn’t this the same file format that the Panasonic P2 files import as? Just seemed to good to be true that I could actually handle a new camera codec without buying more third party conversion programs.

I imagine they will save the 35mm sized sensor and interchangeable lenses for the XL series upgrade which is sure to be in the works.

Thats what I needed. I had to change the overide for each button to reflect the next button in line as well but it all worked great.

You’ll also need a way to secure the receiver to the camera. I use Velcro tape. Put the soft side on the camera plate and the loop side on the receiver. Its simple, and allows you to position the receiver in any direction.

I’ve seen this problem before when the assets were stored on an external drive which was connected via USB. USB may not be able to deliver the data fast enough for steady playback.

They are definitely wanting HD programs but its a new change so maybe they are confused about what is possible and what isn’t. Being new to it myself I wasn’t able to straighten them out. I’ll get back with them and let their tech people sort it out.
