While firewire cables are very usefull for many applications they do add that tethered feeling to the operator. You would need another body tending the cable for a long tracking shot for example. I paid around $600.00 for one firewire cable and I hate laying them anywhere where there is foot traffic. They are not built like a 26 pin studio cable and they don’t lock to the camera either. Then there’s the steady cam which would benifit from the transmitter.

Re: pacing. . . what is it?
I always thought it was what went on in the background, behind the editor (amongst the producers and the director).A simple example that comes to mind is a brief sequence of 3 shots. 1st is a wide shot of a porcupine occuping about 1/3 of the frame. After about 10 seconds of watching him feed with his fur waveing in the breeze people often question what it is as it looks so docile, peaceful and even cuddely. Cut to a shot of it a little closer with it’s menacing quills up and hold for 4 seconds or so , long enough to recognize it’s head which confirms it is the same critter but with much different feeling being evoked. Cut to a close up of a dazzed looking dog’s head with 127 porcupine quills sticking out of his mouth and muzzle. This short sequence transforms your feelings from warmth to shocked to where you can taste the adrenalin in your mouth. The 2nd clip is key as it breaks the mood of the 1st shot and sets you up for the final shot. It is only there long enough for the viewer to recognize the critter and break the peaceful mood.
A more complex example of pacing is the accident scene in Julie Taymor’s “Frida” where you go from a lengthy mood setting shot of them running for the bus. You never settle into the dialog after that as you are shown the bird in the boy’s hand, back to the speaker to connect the dialog and now to the gold in the craftman’s tool kit. both of these elements come back into play during the actual accident which, after a couple of vehicle passing and horn honking shots, breaks into slow motion and cumulates to the tragic overhead view of Frida lying on the floor (with a tremendous amount of creative cinemaphotography & effects in between). This entire crash sequence was shot from the interior of the vehicle! and it is probably the single most important event in the life of Frida Kahlo. What a piece of film work this movie was.

Gee, I hope Panasonic can get some of this price protection we’re all screaming about too! Will those people in the white rooms in the space suits that dig the stuff out of the ground, melt it down and make all the innards of P2 be giving Panasonic any kickbacks too? Hope so! Bravo Panasonic for sharing this price reduction.
It’s like was stated above, the bleeding edge costs. I remember paying $45.00 for a dvd-r 5 years ago. I still have some $15.00 ones sealed in the package and I just got some for $0.20 ea. in jewel cases in Dec.
I haven’t bought any so I’m not out of pocket here but from Jans comments it sounds like between your dealers and Panasonic they will try to make it up where they can. Overall, this is good news.

The PVM 14L5 also requires the BKM142HD HD SDI Input board for viewing HD content. They are about $4000.00.

It seems to me at last years NAB panasonic was predicting P2 cards around 64GB by 2007 and they would be working their way up there ie: 16gb; 32gb in the mean time. We all saw the 4 GB cards take a big price drop when the 8GB cards came out. I wonder how these advancements are comming. It would be nice to see the 16ers about now!

As I said in an earlier post, perhaps there will be room for both ports PCMCIA and Express on the new 17″ widescreen MacBooks. (Hey, they gotta give us one) P2 slot is not obsoleted as long as it does what it does – move data through the HVX200 as fast as it does thereby replacing the need for HD heads and tape mech. Will the P2 slot look the same in 5 years? probably not but the HVX200’s of today will still be very useable then too, just as sony’s DV-1000 is still around today making money. Technology is moving at an ever increasing rate but as long as the tool does what it does our investment is safe. Although we may have to live with a few adapters.

I agree with Luis. Res charts need to be properly lit and aligned on axis with exacting accuracy. Also you can buy them online on cd and print your own so there’s all kinds out there. Quality printed charts on proper stock is essential for accurate testing. I’m not saying your charts or methods are not good Luis but I agree with your limiting your testing to comparisons of the formats only.
