wireless transmission of P2?

Well P2 is a storage format so it would not be something you’d transmit. But there’s nothing to say a Wireless Firewire transmitter and received couldn’t be created for the HVX. It would actually solve a ton of problems- the obvious one being a freedom of movement without tethering. Might not be that far off either- this USB-2 unit does exactly that:

It seems like they already have the option of sending the low res proxy video via a wifi card that slips into the SPX800. So if its a question of bandwidth… why isn’t this solved or offered already? Wouldn’t it be great to transmit the original MXF file to a laptop or desktop wirelessly either live or after the fact? Would this be faster or slower than p2 tranfer methods?

Why not just use a 25′ fire wire cord? 🙂

While firewire cables are very usefull for many applications they do add that tethered feeling to the operator. You would need another body tending the cable for a long tracking shot for example. I paid around $600.00 for one firewire cable and I hate laying them anywhere where there is foot traffic. They are not built like a 26 pin studio cable and they don’t lock to the camera either. Then there’s the steady cam which would benifit from the transmitter.
