HVX Charts Online from every format

I was able to do some shooting with the HVX a while back.
One of the things we did was shoot a res chart in every format the camera had to offer.I’ve pulled stills from each clip and put them up on my site – though I’m not sure how long my bandwidth will last.
The charts probably shouldn’t be used to compare with other charts from other cameras – the only way I think you can do a real cam to cam comparison is to have the same person shoot the same chart at the same location with the same settings, etc. But, I found these charts great to compare each format against the others from the HVX.
The settings were as follows (unless noted otherwise by the file name):
FStop: 4.0
Zoom: Z74
Gain: ZERO
Detail: ZERO
Gamma:
HDNorm (for HD shots)
SDNorm (for SD shots)All other settings were at factory defaults.

Unfortunately, after only a few minutes I had to pull the charts offline.
It seems people couldn’t view the charts for what they were, and I’m afraid that many will pull inaccurate numbers from these charts even after I’ve stressed that they should only be used as means of comparisson between the different formats.
The charts are not accurate and numbers can’t be pulled from them.
The last thing I want is to be seen as a source of misinformation or bias – so I’ve decided to pull the charts offline.Sorry about that.

Could you at least tell if there were any difference between 1080 and 720?

I saw a pretty significant difference between the 1080 and 720 modes.
That was the main thing I was looking for.It seems clear that the 1080 image is higher resolution, not simply more pixel shifting.
I will say though that the 720 footage I’ve shot so far seems cleaner than the 1080 footage.
Not by much, but the noise is more noticeable in 1080 than 720.Keep in mind, that’s when I’m LOOKING for noise.
I don’t want anyone to think that the noise in 1080 is bad, or unusable…

The charts we shot could easily be misconstrued, and I don’t want that.
No conspiracy here.Barry Green put together a great 4way camera test yesterday (Sony, Panasonic, Canon, JVC).

I agree with Luis. Res charts need to be properly lit and aligned on axis with exacting accuracy. Also you can buy them online on cd and print your own so there’s all kinds out there. Quality printed charts on proper stock is essential for accurate testing. I’m not saying your charts or methods are not good Luis but I agree with your limiting your testing to comparisons of the formats only.

Now that I’ve understood that my consern about horiz res was useless because I didn’t notice that people were talking about “lines per height” (my apologies for this mistake, Jan and everyone), I’d like to know if there were any differences between 1080i and 1080p with vert res?
