hooking up and viewing on a sony HD CRT
Posted by Joslyn on January 20, 2006 at 3:57 pmfrom what i understand, we are not able to view component out through a firewire stream. so i’m wondering, how would one view hvx footage on hd monitor such as the sony pvm-14l5 which have component inputs? is this monitor compatible for a nle hd solution? how do i hook this up for final cut pro hd viewing? w/ the dell, you have a black magic card and hd link and hook up to it’s dvi port. thanks!

The AJA Io is SD only.
With the HVX 200 you will need to have some sort of editing system with video out — there is not any reason to write back to the camera when the cards are that expensive. Most projects deliver on tape.
I need HD deck controls and the ability to monitor the footage on a real display for finishing and the post process. No there are not cheaper solutions.
The Kona LH/e is a simple and cost effective solution for the HD Post process.Gary Adcock

so w/ a G5 fcp system w/ a sony pvm-14L5, i will need to use a kona LH(e) card to view dvcpro hd? also, what about for editing on a powerbook G4 out on the field? thanks again!

thats a problem as you do not have any way to view HD out of a laptop, for NON Critical work you could set up a DVI display and use the Digital Cinema Desktop, which will work fine for progressive content.
Editing on a laptop is strictly for cutting – it should not be too much of an issue.Remember that this is not DV anymore and you now need to rethink the how and way of working. HD is a wildly different bird and needs to be treated in a new manner.

January 21, 2006 at 4:54 amunderstood gary. i come from mainly a dv workflow and am just starting to get my feet wet working w/ dvcprohd footage. i’m on a tight budget but at the same time, want to do it the right way otherwise i’d go the dell/hdlink route. from what i understand from others, the pvm-14L5 is the better way to go over an LCD such as the cinema display and dell 2405. coming from a dv environment, was the luxury of firewire streaming out and composite/s-video into an ntsc monitor for realtime previewing this is what i want to accomplish w/ dvcprohd. now i understand in order to do this, extra money is needed to purchase a card such as the kona LH to get realtime previewing in fcp. thanks for leading me in the right direction gary. any more comments suggestion is much appreciated!

But _very_ interesting. Dvi 8-bit bottleneck removed…Graeme, any links to these BBC’s angineers’ sayings?
Have Frontniche already announced any prices?One big difference with HD is that it is primarily watched with big screens.
So it is more important than with SD to get that big screen feeling also in editing process.

January 21, 2006 at 11:46 pmhey guys, wouldn’t a decklink hd pro 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 be another low cost solution for viewing dvcprohd footage on a pvm-14L5 via component? it’s only $995 and $1495 which is cheaper than the aja kona lh. or am i missing something? thanks.
