The firmtek allows you to use their sata arrays with ultra ata’s with the use of a bridge which is fairly cheap. They aren’t as fast but useable for backing up or storing files etc. They should be fine for straight dv work. Look on their site for more details.

Sounds like you are shooting air to air. The wider the lens focal length the more you can get away with. If you zoom in too much you will get too much shake. If you are trying to keep up with fixed wing aircraft you probably won’t be taking the door off. Often there is a tiny slider you can open in the door to avoid shooting through glass but you can get a lot of wind turbulence if you poke the lens too close to the outside. The k-6 gyro from ken lab is about right for the camera. It will cost a few bucks and you will need to worry about charging batteries and the extra weight and cables but it will be a great help. You can use 2 of em on oposite axisis and those cheapo steadycam vests ($2000.00) could be rigged to hold everything but that is bulky and would suite shooting out the back door where you have room for it. The pvm-20m4u is actually 800 lines and you can add sdi into it but it is an old monitor. I think the phousphors are good for 150,000 hours but there are other things that just die after a while (like the tube itself). The L5 is something you will have for many years and won’t need to update (once you add the HDSDI card). For the next 10 years you will be happy you spung for the L5.

It seems to me I exported an edl and then re captured that with the audio “on” and it worked fine. That was back in fcp2 and I’ve never done that again…

I haven’t worked with a dell but I know what you mean about the sharpness. My eyes get tired after 5 or6 hours on the crt but I can look at this monitor all day and it doesn’t seem to tier my eyes. I keep it at the bright end of the setting too.“everything is broken”

I don’t have any answers but this kinda reminds me of linear tape transfers. When going to pal from ntsc you need a longer tape. A 1 hour program required a 1’5″ tape for the conversion. Can you add some black to the end and trim it in ntsc land?

DVDSP4 doesn’t re-encode HDV. Just import them in directly. See page 22 of the manual.

I love my apple 23″ but it has about 5 dead red pixels and about the same in blue. There are 2 exactly side by side within the inner 1/3 (if you divideded it by 9). This double red is a constant bother. I think there is a magic number on what is considered tolerable but I’m not sure what it is. I’m not sure how we’re suposed to live if we send them in for replacement or evaluation. I also wonder if this occurs on the 30″. Bad pixels could really accumulate on one of those. Just wondering how other monitors compare in this regard.
