If anyone runs across one of these grey market babies that needs the Canadian warranty let me know! All the advertised prices here in Canada are $7000.00 CND which at current exchange rates is $6330.00 USD! not to mention 13% sales taxes added on and we don’t get any incentives at present. I can almost buy 2 grey market cameras for this kind of money.
That said, don’t think you have to defend Panasonics’ price on the camera Jan, I’m just commenting on the actual scenario here in North America. The HVX200 has been priced fairly since it’s introduction ($6000.00 basic or $10,000.00 with 2 – 4Gb P2 cards) and thankfully it keeps getting better. Today it is $5000.00 basic or $10,000.00 with 5 – 16Gb P2 cards! Come november it should get better again with the 32GB cards.

I blew the firewire bus on my G5 by hotswapping a DSR11. Now I route all FW devices through a 6 port full matrix switcher. HDD, 2 decks, AJA i/o, all connect to 2 computers through the matrix. No more plugging/unplugging, just push buttons, it’s been working well 6 months. The ESD thingies posted above look good too. From what I’ve read in the past it is sloppy plugging that shorts the connectors and causes the problems.

4×4 filters are linear polarizers which are stronger but they can reach black out effect. Your matte box must have a rotating filter drawer.
Circular polarizers have a second element that is a light baffle that re-scatters the light after polarization. This allows beam splitters used for exposure metering and auto focus to function properly. Most importantly is metering. The polarizing effect will change as you move the camera off axis from your light source.

Yes I remember sending $20.00 and posting the suggestion here and a few others stepped up to the plate with donations. The money went unclaimed (paypal) and then I got an email saying he wasn’t ready to start charging for it and please don’t send money. Perhaps the developer has other funding that stiplifies “no other investors or funding”
With AVC, ProRes and other codecs arriving on the scene regularly it may be a while before they ever finalize this software. grin It could be an endless chain.

After reading this he says maybe in a few months he may be able to accept donations. If anyone has any success at giving their money away be sure to let us all know. There are a number of folks on these forums who offer freebies and when we use them we could also think about purchasing their more complex ones as a thank you to them if we are getting good milage out of their freebies.

FYI
the DSR-11 will auto select the format for playback through the DV connector automatically and display the type on the front panel. Check your timecode though because with the pal switch on the back set to pal it records non drop frame T/C. This will over ride the menu settings for the T/C generator. -
I’d like to see what the AG-HSC1U 3 chip camera can do. It’s pretty cool that you can record this stuff on SD memory cards. Still long GOP formats are a bad choice for acquisition. The AVC -intra codecs look good. I wonder how long it will be before we see an inexpensive camera utilizing it. Even if it requires P2 for capture you could get a lot on the card and P2 keeps getting cheaper and bigger. An AG-HSC1U that utilizes the AVC-intra codec would be something to pack in your side pouch for emergencies.

The Panasonic HVX200 has a dv tape compartment as well as P2 card slots. Sounds like that is the camera as it’s the only one I know with that set-up. It only will record dv25 onto the tape but it will record dv25, dvcpro 50 or dvpro 100(hd) onto P2 cards. Firewire is component and you can do a firewire to firewire dub with the cam no prob.
