It will be tough. The room will be noisy but NEVER leave a recording camera without someone you trust and can fire later, on head sets.
The most often asked question is “how do I repair distorted audio?”. It might start out great but during the event, someone is going to move a fader or adjust an aux send to you and if you or your partner is not on headphones, it will burn your recording.
It is strange but during the shoot, everyone is worried about video but after the shoot, everyone is focused on the audio. -
For Voice over work in the booth, I normalise after I do a rough edit to remove any coughs, laughs or anything that is higher in level than the reading voice.

If you looking for a deck to playback Varicam tapes only, consider the now out dated Panasonic AJ-HD130DC deck. You should be able to get one fairly cheap.
It will do Varicam tapes all day long but it will not playback any tapes shot on the new Panasonic HDX900 cameras. It also will NOT do firewire I/O.Ray Palmer, Engineer

We have used a different GPS unit with Standard Definition.
Example. We do a lot of aerial video from a helicopter of the desert around Phoenix, Arizona. The GPS tells us
-where we were when we shot the video.
-when we shot the video. Date and military time.
-our heading and elevation and sometimes speed.
We can then take the GPS signal and match it with a map program using a laptop such as Street Atlas, and we get a graphic of where we shot the video.
This all comes in handy with Legal issues.The HDX and SDX900 puts the GPS information in the meta data. I just need to know how to extract the information.
I expect a reply from Panasonic next week. I have been told that they are researching a work flow white paper.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the Elvis special.
I wasn’t able to see all of it but what I did see looked great. I thought that the gaffer used on the interviews did a great job. The lighting had lots of depth and really added to the look.Twenty days in Vegas! I have a hard time staying for 4 days during NAB.

I agree, the Countryman or DPA head worn mics.
Some head worn mics attach to one ear and some to both ears.

This is a short spot. Can you have them do all of the audio again? Record the VO and then have them ADR the studio shot using the same mic and booth. Job done.
Keep it tight and record in a quiet environment, not the studio. You can add presence but it is really tough to remove it.

Use the video out not the monitor output. The video out can be switched to HD-SDI, SD-SDI or CVBS, which is composite. The switch is a hard switch on the left side of the camera,

In case anyone offers this as a solution.
Panasonic also made a DVCPro100 HD deck, the 130DC. It will play back Varicam tapes, 18 microns, but not anything recorded on the 1200A, 1400 decks or from the 900 camera, which are all 9 microns.
