Loft Nurbs are perfect for this application.

Setting selections would be my approach. Select the polys you want to be texture “A” then in the selection menu choose “Set Selection” now you just assign the texture to that selection. You can repeat this for all the sections.

If you want to seperate the geometry select the piece you want to break off and in the “Functions” menu select “SPLIT” then you get two pieces.

Cloth is really sensitive in how it works so it will take some playing around to get the desired result. You are going to want as uniform sized polygons as posable so maybe (I have not tried) a cube would get better results than a cylinder.

Like adam mentioned you need enough polygons to get the shape but I think you went a little overboard for now, if you need more add them later.

You need to enable Self collision. Also the Point Edge and Polygon collision sizes should be adjusted to fit your mesh. Mesure the distance between points to get this number.

Flexion is how much you mesh returns to its original shape so you don’t need so much of it.
Rubber is how much it deforms and stays deformed.
Stiffness can be set higher than 100% and foil will need a high number there.
And try using dress mode since your not animating this. Use a different set up for the ripping of the foil.

Otherwise you can box model it and get a good texture with displacement.

Copy the bottle and delete all the polys you don’t need for your label and scale them up a tiny bit. Then apply your texture with alpha.

  • Sweep nurbs are the answer to doing this. What do you mean by distortion? Can you post a pic?

Model the foil as normal then make it cloth and paint a vertex map of where you want it to tear. Enable tearing in the cloth tag. Don’t forget you need to have it in a cloth Nurbs object for tearing to work.
Belt your tear point to an animated object to tear it.

A nurbs object does not have polys until its editable.
Now if by “Face” you mean an end cap you can change that in the CAPS Tab of the extrude nurbs where it says TYPE its defaulted to NGONS change that to quads and enable the grid and adjust to taste.

If you need poly control else where try playing with the intermediate points of your spline. Its an option when you select the spline.

A fast and easy way is to put a Formula Deformer as the child of the spline.
Otherwise if you need more control use xpresso. If you need this I can post a file.

I think you can get some nice results with a little box modeling. This tutorial should tell you what you need to know.

There was a thread at c4dcafe.com about creating an egg they had lot of different methods that produced several topographys to choose from.

Or you could go get the EGG primitive:
