The boole it self you cannot really do much about but you can fake it.
You need two walls one with a hole and one with out.
The solid wall needs a DISPLAY TAG. Enable and animate “visibility”

Then you should be good to go.

You need a clean plate as well. So just render out the background object and place it at the bottom of the comp. So your object buffer cuts a hole in the original render showing the clean plate under… hopefully seamless.

Glad to hear you got it working.
I looked at my set up and my oscillator node was set to -1 to +1 so I had to have my compare node set to greater than…. but your right the range mapper inverts what the original number was so the two numbers would never collide but I originally did the set up with out a oscillator node and it got a little too in depth.

Your object needs to be editable. So select the polygon object and press “C”
then on the side bar menu you can select the Move Axis tool. Select that and move the axis over to where your stem should start.

Here is a screen grab of that tool. https://skitch.com/randy-johnson/rp2xn/untitled-1

    That looked right to me.
I just did a screen capture of how I did it and posted it here.

If you want to use more numbers you can duplicate this on a few numbers and offset the time. then group them and duplicate the whole group and so on.

    Thats looking good,
All you need to do now is click the Blue corner of the “0” and the “1” and in the drop down menu under “Basic Properties” you will find “enable”

In xpresso you can drag in anything and control almost anything. Blue corner is always input and red corner is always export. If you get a yellow node it means there is a problem.

What version of C4D are you using?
r12 you could set it up with dynamics… r10.5 and up you can do it with spline dynamics from the hair menu…c4dcafe has a tutorial on this.

  • your project frame rate and your render settings need to be at the same frame rate… and if you are rendering quicktime that needs to be the same too.
