Sorry Ron if I mixed you up. I just picked some information from the manual of a prgram call MPGStreamclip. This is very commonly used to export MPGs as QT, AVI etc. In the Help of the application says that AVI 1.0 files have a limit of 4Gbs.

I film in DVCam and CC in a DV time-line, but when I’m about to export to Compressor to make the MPG2, I set the sequence in 8b Uncompress. If you keep in DV before to go to Compressor your waisting 75% of what you have get with the CC.

Try to capture your footage already Broadcast Safe, and forget about rendering or quality loose.

Bcam use two different TCs. The LTC (longitudinal Time Code) is a digital signal that get recorded in a separate track the same than the audio. VITC (Vertical Interval Time Code) is a similar signal that get recorded in some of the first line of the image that have not picture information (this is why some times we can see small white dots moving in the top of the picture).
Normally they are use toghether. They should have the same time information (although some times it doesn’t happen and make the editor crazy).
The LTC is easier to read in Play or FFW & REW and the VITC normally is readed when the tape run slow or is stoped (In that momment the LTC can not be readed because need certain tape speed). Usually the two of them are enabled and the desk use the one that can read esylly, but you can give prioriti or disable bouth.
Two download BCam footage to a Mac you must do it through a videocard, and to record the original TC of that footage, the videocard has to allow you to do that. I guess that the VITC of the Bcam became just a part of the image (white dots) when the image is captured, but it doesn’t as as a TC any more.
To put footage back to Bcam we got the same issue with the TC (LTC or VITC). The video desk can record a TC that generate it self or can record an externall TC if you provide it. When you print to video in DV, the TC signal goes thrugh the FireWire but, How to rout this TC signal to your Bcam desk? No idea.
In the end is a matter of send the TC (LTC or VITC) to the computer and back. I think is a matter of video cards.

I made some tests months ago with Sorenson, MPG4 and RealPlayer. The quality of the picture was far more better with Realplayer, but somebody taold me in this forum that the use of this format was not much spreaded. As long as I know, and as Jhon says, Flash in very much in fashion, but I didn’t try yet.

Hi Ron,
I don’t know much about AVIs files (thanks God y work in QT), but as long as I can read in the MPEGStreamclip Help documment, the AVI 1.0 files are limited to 4Gbs size. That means less than 20 minutes if they are DV.

Just export the audio from the original movie using QT. Export as an .aiff , 16b, 48 Khz. NOT 44.1, because FC works natively in 48Khz and even you can listen 44.1 in preview, it must be resampled to 48. With the .aiff you can forget about time-code issues and you can lie it down in any time-line without regarding the video format.

As Jeremy says, your footage doesn’t mach your sequence. You must see the setting of your sequence and check that the clips in the brownser got the same specs. Many times FC do not recognice properly these specs and you must set them manually in the brownser columms. If they mach FC will recognice it and you don’t have to render. This happens even this maching is not real i.e. you bring a upper-field clip to a lower-first time-line but you check the clip as lower-first in the brownser. The clip will be readed with the wrong order but without rendering. Up today I think FC works fine with all the QT supported codecs.
