Try to export a shorter clip. Just one minute or so. If its works well then may be a problem with your HDs (I think).
Normally whenever I got this kind of problems (rendering that do not finish or too slow, applications that do funny things etc) before to start to trash prefferences and reinstall applications I make sure that the system is optimiced. Repair permisions and run Maintenance and DiskWarrior or Techtools.

You want the shoots to be printed and in this way you will get the standard 72ppi images. Not much for printing. So as long as you can not get a higher definition, try to get bigger windows reducing the resolution of your screen (800×600) before making the captures. I thing you will get more printable shoots.

MPG2 is not an editable format and I’m not sure even if MPG2 can support TC. At least the MPG2 that you can get with Compressor, Cleaner or Squeeze can not The TC is a way of identify single frames and in MPG2 you got not frames but GOP.
If you want to re-edit your film in FC you must transcode it to other editable format. As you sayd the Apple Intermediate Codec is a good solution. If not, try 8b Unc or DVCPro50. Dont go to DV.

Hi Jamie,
You have to care about the video set-up level if you go to print to analog, If you keep in digital you don’t have to worry about. Just make sure that your external monitor is well calibrated. If looks correct in your monitor will look well in any other monitor properly calibrated. And keep your signal Broadcast legal.

I touch the gamma a bit whenever I do something for the web, but the MPG2, as long as i’ve got good monitoring when I correct the color, and they are suposed to be played in TV sets, I do not touch it.

Do you get better MPG2 with Squeeze than with Compressor?

The only thing you can miss from your old prefferences are the “Favorites” that will dissapear. So if you don’t have some special
“Favorites” to keep, just trash the old prefferences. If the problem continue after trashing the preffs, as Steven says, repair permissions, run maintenance, and DiskWarrior or Techtool. Anyway all thsi you should do it in a regular basis to make your system goes smooth.

I gues that your question is: What codec is better for square pixels?
The aspect ratio of the pixels is not important when compressing but when displaying the film. QT reads everything as square pixels.
