Up to the Blackmagic Speed Test, all my LaCies (5 or 6 200Gbs/FireWire 400 and a 350Gbs FireWire 800) are able to read a write 8-10b YUV 422 and 10-12b RGB 444. True? Lie?

The jittering freeze-frame has being de-interlaced?
About your scsled-croped footage, make sure that is centered (x=0, y=0) or if you reposicion it make sure that “y” is an even number, never odd.

Hi Mike,
Whenever I have to make any kind of animation with stills I try to do it in AfterEffects. First because you keep working in RGB and also because the posibilities and the results of the animation are much better. Another reason is that you go to work with big stills that you will resize, and for resizeing AE or Shake have better filters than FC and the final result will be better.
If working in FC, as I told you, avoid to use DV/DVCPro codec because you are waisting the 75% of the color information of your stills. That you can see in the moment that you change your sequence setting to a higher quality codec.
About the de-interlacing it shouldn’t be much problem because your stills ar progresive, so you can set them in a progresive or interlaced sequence. The only diffrerence is that if your sequence is interlaced, the animation will look smoother.
So Mike, my advice that that you try first to set your sequence as DVCPro50 or 8b uncompressed. That may be enough to get rid of your interlacing problems.
And don’t forget to set in the Sequence Setting>Video procesing> Motion Filtering Quality: BEST.

Hi Stu,
I’ve got a similar issue when I work with the Sheer codec. When the video is in plays is much more lighter that when is stoped. I guess this can be because Sheer is a “Gamma independent codec” so it doesn’t change the gamma to be displayed. This have make me wander few times if was any bug but I made few test comparing some clips exported with Sheer and exported with the Apple codecs (8/19b Unc). When you play the Sheers in FC or QT they look lighter than the Apples, but when I brouth them to AE or shake, where I could compare the clips better than in FC, I couldn’t find any difference.

If you are working with stills just avoid to edit in DV. Choose a better codec that can keep more color information. Choose an RGB codec because you are working with still (RGB) or a YCbCr one (because you want to output to DVD) 422 i.e DVCPro50. If you master your film in DV your waisting all the quality of your graphics.
About the interlacing, you shouldn’t have much problems while working with stills because the stills are progresive.

You are not editing in a DV time-line? aren’t you? If so change your sequnce setting to a better codec. DVCPro 50 at least.

Joe got another plugin call Time Ramper. Is based in Time Bender but it sayd to work better.

When you will get your BlackMagic, you will get asoftwre package with a application call: Blackmagic Speed Disk Test. This application will tell you if your HDs are fast enough to manage the data rate of the different uncompressed formats.
About the LaCies In my experience they work great for editing but, as David Roth point, I have never tried to print to video a 10b Unc clip so I don’t know how would behave in such a task.
