I have some MPEG2 clips from HDV that were captured in Adobe Premiere
and given to me on DVDs.
How can I get this into FCP? They won’t open in FCP.
The MPEG2 clips don’t open in Quicktime either.
In Quicktime they just open as black.
I can convert them with an Apple Intermediate Codec using MPEG Streamclip
but I seem to loose any timecode info.
MPEG Streamclip also finds data breaks in these clips.
    What’s the problem here?
Are MPEG2 clips from a PC just not compatible.
I would have preferred capturing from the HDV tapes and
working in DVCPro HD but this is how I received the project.

    Thanks
    Paul

MPG2 is not an editable format and I’m not sure even if MPG2 can support TC. At least the MPG2 that you can get with Compressor, Cleaner or Squeeze can not The TC is a way of identify single frames and in MPG2 you got not frames but GOP.
If you want to re-edit your film in FC you must transcode it to other editable format. As you sayd the Apple Intermediate Codec is a good solution. If not, try 8b Unc or DVCPro50. Dont go to DV.

Adobe Premiere Pro captures HDV as MPEG2 files.
It surely has timecode on the clips for it to be edited in Premiere.
Unfortunately now we are switching over to FCP to
finish editing. Of course that’s not ideal to switch
but that what has to be done.
I wonder if a windows machine can export HDV clips.
with an Apple Intermediate Codec from Premiere.
A question for the Adobe gang I guess.

I think the Appel Intermediate codec is not supported by QT for Windows. But you can try with 8b Unc. The Appel codec it doesn’t work in PC but you can use the Blackmagic codecs that work in both platforms and are free.
