Why do you need Animation? Are you exporting Alpha?

As I wrote in the other piece of thread, I think that the option you pointed was more logic and easy.
I’ve got Sheer since almost to years and I’m very happy of the money I’ spent. I’ve got some friends that work with AE in PC. They started to use the codec to share files with me, but now they only use to inter-change files between them.
Any way I recognice that I know almost nothing about AVI and WM. I’ve got not real contact with the film-video industry because where I live there is not such a. My only conexion with this world is my work and this forum. And I;m very happy to learn workflows that, as the one that you pointed, can help me some time.

you are not watching your DVD in your computer? Aren’t you? You must play it in a interlaced monitor or TV to be sure that you’ve got interlacing problems.
If you are sure that the field order of the DVD is wrong, make a copy of the Compressor preset and change VIDEO FORMAT> AUTOMATIC (SD) by NTSC and set the “Field Dominance” to Lower (I guess your film is lower first).
Johnny, the quality of the .aiff is much better. I only use .ac3 if I have to put more than one audio or some times that I made very high data rate MPGs. In these case the data rate of the image plus the sound its make difficult playing the DVD properly.

Yes but the quetion of Russ haven’t been answer. Supose that we had telecined a B&W film. We record it in 8b Unc. Then we make a copy in DV. Would be any difference in between the two movies?
In theory, I think, it shouldn’t be any difference. If so, as Russ says, working in DV would save a lot of space in his HDs and the quality of the final movie would be exactly the same.
Russ, probably the best is if you make some tests. I would suggest you to apply a CC filter and put the saturation all the way down. just to make sure that there is not any remaining Chroma. This i would do it just because I’ve got no idea about telecining:-)

This should be the solution. The question is not who do it better. I think is more important to avoid changing in color spaces. Start in a color space, go to a different one to CC and them back to the first one to deliver should be avoided. Although I know that the tools can be more precises in AE, I preffer do everithing in FC. If is possible to do all the process in one step (only one rendering), the best for the picture.

Hi Blake,
Set the clip from where you want to extract the still in the time-line and drop on it a de-interlacing filter. Select the frame you want in the Canvas and go to MODIFIE> MAKE FREEZE FRAME. Then just go to EXPORT USING QT CONVERSION> Format: Still Image and in the options select the kind of graphic format you need. Then you will find a bunch of formats that you can open in Photoshop.
