  • How to use the matte created from mullti-pass render fro 3D application

    Hi,

I have created an animated shot of a card opening revealing the video which will be served as a introduction to my presentation. I have separately rendered a black & white matte of the same animation, from which a square will be transparent for the video to show through.

However, when I import it into Final Cut, I do not know which filter to use in order for the matte to be used together with the animation. I want to know if I can use the matte to be like an alpha channel for the animated shot so that I can get the video layer underneath to show through.

    Please advice, thanks

    Ken

    Hi Ken,
Basically you need to work with three layers.
    – layer1 you set your background.
    – layer 2 set your B&W matte.
    – layer three set your foreground. Then this foreground layer you must set COMPOSITE MODE to TRAVEL MATTE LUMA.
You will see that your foreground image only will show-up depending of the luma of the matte. So in the areas that the matte is white will show-up 100% in the gray areas will show-up less and in the black areas will not show-up.
Sorry for this basic explaining. You got a good video tutorial of Walter Biscardi, here in the Cow, about how to applay Alpha and luma Travel mattes and how to apply shadows etc.
    Cheers,

    Hi Rafael,

Yes it works, thanks for the info, did not occur to me to use the travel matte, may have to dig deeper in my manual to know more about the sdoftware.

    Thanks once again
