That the point. What is the difference in between 8b Unc and DVCPro50? The two of them are 8b, 422. The two of them record the half of the chroma information, but DVCPro50 apply some other kind of compression (DFT or DCT or so, I’m not sure about now) to get smaller files. 8b Unc it writes all this information as it is without applying any other form of compression.

6 Gbs is nothing if you intend to work with a 55 minutes DVCProHD file. You need much more memory.

When we render, it doesn’t matter the codec of our footage, we are expanding our image to 444. It doesn’t matter if we are with DV (411 or 420) when rendering we are calculating the RGB or YCrCb values of all the pixels of our image. If we go again to a 420/411 format, we are throwing away 75% of the new color values. If we go to 422, the 50%. The only way to keep all would be 444. But, 444 what for? All the video technologie has been developed with the capabilities of the human eye in mind. There is a point that where our eyes can not apreciate this extra information. So we would start to alk about econnomy.
ELLIOT, now you got your 10b Unc sequence. You can send to Compressor:
_ From the time-line.
– As a Self-contained movie.
– As A refference movie.
Your film is 43 minutes, so just drop “DVD Best Quality 90 minutes” (16×9, or 4×3, depending of your project) and .aiff. Let Compressor make the rest.

Your right Dave, there are some risks in using third part codecs. But in this case I think the people of Bit-Jazz are making a very good job.
Anyway the thing that push me to use Sheer is that you can export8/10B Unc YCrCb with alpha codec so you can avoid color issues.

Hi Mark,
Your question is not very clear. You have done your edit in FC 8b Unc, so now you have to make a MPG2 for the DVD.
You got three option to do it with Compressor:
_ Export to Compressor from the FC time-line (what make FC re-render everything).
– Export a Reference movie from FC (this need that the film has be previously rendered in FC).
– Export a Self-contained movie from FC.
Whichever you prefer to use, now Compressor is ready to convert your 8b Unc 16×9 film in a MPG2.
Choose one of the DVD 16×9 presets and Compressor will make a nice MPG2 NTSC 16×9. You don’t have to worry about any parameter. Export the audio too as .aiff or .ac3.
Then open DVDSTP. Set your projet as NTSC and import those two files. Drag the .mv2 and the audio to the time-line. Make sure that the track got set “Display mode” 16×9, in the inspector.
That’s all.

Hi Ken,
If the DVD is protected, I think you need MacTheripper. I don’t think MPGStreamclip can do it.
Once you have ripped the DVD, open MPGStreamclip and from there open the VOBs of the ripped files. Them export to QT. You will get a window where to select the QT codec and the audio set-ups. Export your audio 48Khz and 16 bits. If For the video choose at least DVCPro50 or even better codec. In MPGStreamclip you can set IN and OUT points so you can export what you need.
Dont export DV because you will get a DV Sequence as the used by iMovie.

Hi,
I think that to have the footage and the audio and video render files in the same HD is the reason of your problems. Normally I put my footage in a external HD and the video render files in another. The audio render files I let them in the Main HD because in the end audio is lighter to move than video.
If all of the edit suits in your workplace haven’t got the same configuration, is possible that some of them read your project properly and some others they can not.

Hi ukachi,
You should have a look to the Sheer codec that now support AVI. High quality 8/10b RGB and YCrCb 422 and 444 with alpha chanel. Loosseless and half the size of the Apple codecs.
