    Charles,

I don’t think you will ever face any problems with 24 GB of RAM. The system that I worked on had a mere 4 GB. 😉

    Hi Charles

    What’s your system configuration?
And to what extent are you planning zooms and camera motion on the stills?
I have done a stills based video in motion and FCP recently.
And my experience is that the large resolution stills really take a toll on the system.

In motion I got a warning every time regarding the max resolution that the system could handle. And It was definitely less than the stills.

I find it very useful to keep the one dimension of the image equal to that of the final video that you want. Depending on the motion that you want, you can keep it 1.5 to 2 times , but please plan this carefully.

And I have worked with JPEGs and unless they are very heavily compressed , it looks fine. If at all you are very fussy about the quality, you can try the size reduction and targa combination and see how it works out..

I use MPEGStreamclip to encode using H.264.
I prefer 640X360 resolution when converting HD clips for Web.
And I find the results very satisfying.

Are you playing back the exported video in Quick Time Player?
Have you tried any other player?

I have had issues with QT player not playing in correct aspect ratio earlier.

Try opening the file in MPEGStreamClip.

Which software are you using for MPEG-2 conversion?

There’s the Anamorphic check box when you press Cmd+0, Is it checked?
If yes that could be problem?

Also what is your easy setup setting?

Are you simply changing the same sequence settings from 16×9 to 4×3?
You need to change pixel aspect ratio also.

I think you should copy paste the whole edit into another 4X3 sequence. That way you will have all setting correct.

I think you can crop the the letterbox using MPEGStreamClip.
That should give you just the video part, and you can choose the custom resolution so as not to distort the visuals.

    Hmm…
So the compressor setting refers to source format or the output format?

HDV is upper first format then should my compressor setting be UPPER ? or should it be LOWER as the final output is expected to be SD?

Ok.. so I should set it to Upper, right?

I played with couple of frame controls but not FIELD ORDER.
    Thought automatic would be best.

And Thanks for the quick reply John.

Have you tried changing the start or end values of the FCP dissolves?
