I have video shot from a flip Q that includes letterboxing on the actual video. I needed to use smoothcam for some shots, and it resulted in wavy crazy letterbox distortion. My workaround was to add a mask of matte and crop top and bottom to hide the crazy movement. But now I need to upload this video to youtube, and am getting the box-in-a-box video with youtube reading the video and displaying it in a 3×4 with the ‘faked’ letterbox from the edit and also pillar boxing to compensate the left and right. I need to export this video as a real widescreen by somehow stretching or deleting of areas on the top and bottom in FCP, but for whatever reason, I can’t figure it out, because every time I export and test in quicktime, the letterbox is still there. Does anyone know how I can work around this?

I think you can crop the the letterbox using MPEGStreamClip.
That should give you just the video part, and you can choose the custom resolution so as not to distort the visuals.

Resize and/or crop with compressor, since I assume you are already using it to convert from your editing format to a youtube format?
