    Hi guys.
Just finished a HDV 1080 50i project. And Exported a 1 minute video as a self contained movie. Then I used compressor (BEST Quality DVD:90 mins). But the quality of the output was below par.

Wherever there was fast motion in the video, it all appeared with extreme jagged edges.
And when I used the same mov file in Toast Titanium directly, the output that I got was much better compared to Compressor.

So for the day my purpose is solved. but I am confused.
Isn’t compressor designed to avoid exactly the kind of thing that I am getting from it.
And earlier I have had very bad outputs from the Toast Titanium and HDV combination but compressor worked fine.

    So what has happened now?
    What’s the problem?

You might check the field order in the Inspector. Compressor may set this “automatically” and get it wrong.

Ok.. so I should set it to Upper, right?

I played with couple of frame controls but not FIELD ORDER.
    Thought automatic would be best.

And Thanks for the quick reply John.

see what it is in the settings in final cut.

hd is usually upper, but pal dv is lower.

also make sure in compressor the resize filter is on and set for best.

    Hmm…
So the compressor setting refers to source format or the output format?

HDV is upper first format then should my compressor setting be UPPER ? or should it be LOWER as the final output is expected to be SD?

You used a 90 minute preset for a 1 minute video.
    Adjust your data rate accordingly.

All HD and all SD except DV is upper in 25fps. Automatic should work but set to upper and all will be good.
