December 20, 2014 at 5:32 pm in reply to: Fuji XA or ZA lens?

    Seth,
I ended up with a Fuji ZA lens, don’t remember what model it was as I have since sold the lens and the P2 VariCam for “better” lenses and cameras. I never had a problem with the ZA lens and used it with HA and even SD lenses and never noticed a difference, even with the SD lens.
Your decision might depend on the camera you are using it on on cameras you will use it on in the future and if you have clients that request a certain lens package.

Has there been a fix for this problem? Maybe a setting in preferences that I can not find?

December 15, 2013 at 6:31 pm in reply to: Red Giant Looks not showing preview on Premiere Pro CC ?

    Revised –
I received this message from Red Giant Software on 12.18.13, in case people are still having problems. This seemed to fix the problem for me as of 12.18.13

This was an issue that came up with the recent update to Premiere CC 7.1. We have been working closely with Adobe and they have released Premiere CC 7.2. We also released Looks version 2.1.3 and together these releases should fix the black frame issue you are experiencing.

Please be sure to update to Premiere Pro CC 7.2. Once Premiere is up to date, please download the latest installer for the Color Suite and install Looks:

Anyone know if there has been a fix / solution for MB Looks in Adobe Premiere?

November 17, 2013 at 8:35 pm in reply to: Premiere Pro CC won’t let me select a scratch disk

I came across this post a while back and it has helped me with this issue:

1.) First make sure your scratch disk is writable. Right click on the external drive desktop icon. Under the drop down menu choose Get Info. At the bottom unlock the spotlight screen. You will be prompted to enter your password. Back in the menu next to your Name and under Priveldge chooseRead & Write. Lock and close.

2.) Open Premiere Pro CS 5.5 or CS 6. Click on New Project. In General, under location select your external drive under Browse. Next Name your project. At this time, don’t worry about the Scratch Disk settings. You will probably get a “scratch disk is write protected or unavailable” error or something similar.

3.) For the moment click through the chosen Premiere Pro disk location on your computer and open your new project. In Premiere Pro at the top of the screen open Preferences. Under Preferences choose Media. Under Media Cache Files choose Browse on
your external drive and select a location for the folder. Under Media Cache Database select Clean.Next select Browse and select a location for the folder. Select Ok at the bottom of the screen and it will close.

4.) Next at the top of the screen select Project. Under the Project Settings in the drop down menu choose Scratch Disks. From here there are two ways to make the adjustment. One way is to select Project from the drop down menu. This should point to where your project file is being stored on the external hard drive. The second is to select the Browse button and find a location for each file on your external drive. Select Ok at the bottom and the screen will close.

It may take a little work but your scratch disk is now setup on your external drive. If you change drives at any time, you will have to go through the whole process all over again.

Antony, listen to Shane he knows his stuff I have read a lot of his threads and has helped me on numerous occasions.
I like the CalDigit Drives, https://www.caldigit.com/HDElement/
I’m using a HD Element with my FCP ver. 7 system, most footage I edit is from a P2 Varicam at 1080 24p or footage transcoded from 5D h.264 to ProRes 422 HQ, the CalDigit Raid holds up well and rocks. So do the CalDigit VR2 models.

June 5, 2012 at 1:21 pm in reply to: HPX250 Backfocus Issue?

Andrew, I glad you mentioned the battery run time on your post. I have been getting about 3-4 hours on the Panasonic battery that came with the camera and the same with some non-Pany batteries. I might have to invest in one of those Anton Bauer ElipZ batteries for longer shoots.

May 13, 2012 at 11:42 pm in reply to: HPX250 Backfocus Issue?

I’m having the same focus issue with the HPX250 and I’m not happy about this at all. I can not go out of focus on a image while zooming out (not that I like zooms, but some times you have to use it) this is not acceptable at all. Is Panasonic going to fix this, replace the camera, refund the camera?

    Panasonic please help. thanks.

[Steve Cooperman] “This is not a defect. The lens can zoom all the way in (616mm) as close as 3 feet without a close up filter. In this position, the optics are in a macro focus mode. In this situation, the lens cannot hold focus for a few mm’s when zooming out. When the lens is zoomed all the way in (616mm) at 6 feet, the lens can hold focus when zooming out to full wide (28mm). In this position, the optics are not in a macro mode.

The point is, this is not a back focus problem. This is the unique ability of having a 22x wide lens on this great new camera.

Oh, and thanks for your positive comments on the camera. Our engineering team listened to many requests and implemented them on this model. And the 10-bit, full-resolution AVC-Intra 100 video quality and 22x wide zoom lens are amazing for a one-piece, sub $6,000 camera.

Thanks and have a nice day.
