Just interested… are all your media files on your raid array? If you were to experiment with them on a single drive, does it still crash. I ask because I had a problem with a raid 5 setup and eventually went back to simple raid 1. There was something weird between the raid drivers and the chipset that I never resolved as the current setup is working fine.

You have set Vegas properties to match the media you have imported?
Are the files from a different source to those that worked on your previous Vegas?

I hope you didn’t load the Klite codec package. If you have, you will be better off uninstalling them and then re-installing Vegas. (See past threads on installing that package).

Just a thought… why not edit with proxy files and then let the computer do the heavy stuff (render) overnight. The i3 is a bit underpowered to cope with high bit rates. As John said an i7 quad core is really needed.

Why not lay black in a track above the main video and cut the black and separate it by a frame or two where you want the main video to show through. If you are cutting to sound, use the audio wave forms to help synch the gaps in the black.

A couple of questions … what format is the media on your timeline (are there different types of media)…. have you applied effects to any media, if so what effects…. what format are you rendering to?
Also, for starters, are the project properties set to the media you have on the timeline (assuming most or all are one type?)

Save your project and close Vegas, then restart Vegas while holding the Control and Shift keys. This should return the program to its initial settings. Then re-open your project.

John is 100% right. We all get clients like yours somewhere along the track, and when they pull a stunt like that with no respect for your professionalism, just cut them loose. Be polite and put a realistic (profitable to you) price on the stuff he wants – with a limited use caveat if you think you might want to use the footage yourself in a later project.

That is the only way he can open his veg file, Stephen – by double clicking in Win explorer. Happened once to me but windoze was in a weird state at the time and after rebooting all was OK.
