Hmmm, let’s see…are you using one of the front FW ports? If so, try one on the rear panel.

Are you sure the FW cable and the adapter are good? Can you try others?

What version of FCP are you using? When did this last work for you (if ever)?

    Steve,
Try Firewire NTSC Basic device control. That always worked for me when I had an XL1.

Have you done anything to check your RAM? TechToolPro will do this, but I don’t know of any included utility that does…just a thought.

I’d probably first try sending it to Soundtrack Pro, assuming you have enough of just the hiss to set a noise print, and use the noise reduction process. If that didn’t work well enough, I might give the parametric EQ in FCP a try. Just realize that you’ll lose more than just the hiss this way.

Hope that helps. Post back with your results.

I don’t know what you mean by “initialize” the DSR-11. I just set up FCP like I always have, usually using the “DV NTSC 48kHz” Easy Setup and “Firewire NTSC” device control.

I usually turn on the deck before starting up FCP, but even that isn’t necessary; you can always just turn it on later and Option-F12 will refresh A/V devices.

    Leland,

If you go to https://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/resources/supportdevices.php you can find which devices are officially supported by Apple for a given version of FCP. Not all devices are listed. My Sony DSR-11 has worked with EVERY version of FCP, including 7, but isn’t listed for 7, probably because it’s no longer being made.

You don’t mention what FCP version you’re using, but I don’t find your deck even listed.

You might try “Firewire Basic” device control, too.

    Hope this helps.

May 7, 2010 at 6:38 pm in reply to: Stereo Clips load in viewer panned -1

A pan setting of -1 indicates normal STEREO (left channel panned left, right channel panned right).
A pan setting of 0 indicates MONO.

    Does that help?

  • Deleting files from the browser window does only that. The files are still on your hard drive, in whatever folder you captured them to. So yes, you’ll have to manually delete them to free up disk space.
