I have my Canon XL1 connected via Firewire 400 cable to a firewire 800 adapter and into the 800 port on my Mac Tower, but Final Cut Pro cannot “locate external device” What am I doing wrong? I have checked my Log and capture settings for “Firewire NTSC” as well.

    Steve,
Try Firewire NTSC Basic device control. That always worked for me when I had an XL1.

Hmmm, let’s see…are you using one of the front FW ports? If so, try one on the rear panel.

Are you sure the FW cable and the adapter are good? Can you try others?

What version of FCP are you using? When did this last work for you (if ever)?

I am using FCP ver 6.0.6 I have tried both ports front and back. The last time this worked for me I was using a firewire 400 cable to a 400 port now none of the machines ship with 400 ports so I use an adapter to go to a firewire 800. That is the only change.
