QuickTime “Pro” only adds Export and Edit to the QuickTime Player and save from the browser plug-in. It really should be called QuickTime Player Pro because it only adds features to the Player application. it doesn’t add or unlock any feature in any other application. There are about 20,000 other applications on Mac and Windows that use QuickTime (according to Apple about 2 years ago) and “pro” adds nothing to them.
The feature I like is the ability to edit compressed files without decompressing and re-encoding them. For me that’s worth the $30 US but then I do that a lot. There may be some export formats than are supported in After Effects, but not many.

April 28, 2005 at 9:21 pm in reply to: A huge ‘thank you’ and a very sad farewell to Philip Hodgetts from the CowThanks Ron and everyone for the kind words. It’s been an honor and a privilege to hang out here and I know the COW will continue to grow and develop as Ron and Kathlyn’s vision comes to fruition.
Cheers guys and gals. I will be around, but not as often and as consistently as I have been.

I wrote this up recently as a Tip of the day in the Pro Apps Hub – in brief – import stills with desired duration, select all or select in order, set transition, drag to canvas – overwrite with transition.
For variation, create a motion and copy then paste attributes to all clips.
Pro Apps Hub is free and tips are permanently archived

[scot walker] “So if I don’t have anything on that second monitor, it’s still a drain? Is it actually splitting my VRAM between the two monitors, so Motion is really only getting 128 megs? “
As i understand it – yes, and yes. Simply plugging in the second monitor dramatically slows Motion.
I believe I heard it from someone I consider a reliable source at the time but since I can’t recall who that was so it can be double checked, I’ll allow for a degree of uncertainty. However, it’s in my brian as “pretty solid” 🙂

[scot walker] “I’ve been using Motion for a project recently and it does slow down, especially when you have the timeline open (like on a second monitor).”
Running a second monitor is one of the unkindest things you can do for Motion performance. Unless you run it off an entirely separate (PCI) graphics card, otherwise it’s a real performance drain on the graphics card.

April 8, 2005 at 11:35 pm in reply to: I want text to be blown off the screen like dust. There’s a tutorial out there somewhere that might help get started – search google for – motion, creating explosive particle effects – and you should find it. It uses particles to wipe out an object. If you did something like this with a sand-like particle, and used that to wipe off the existing text and overlaid a blowing particle like other people have suggested, you could get close.

uninstalling the drivers and upgrading to OS X 10.3.8 did not help solve the problem.
A complete uninstall of Motion, following the instructions on Apple’s Knowledge Base and then reinstall solved the problem.
