Only just found this thread, sorry. Steve, yes 7 to X is possible but very much more complex than X to 7. Perfect fidelity will never happen because the two apps are so different. CatDV is fine for cuts only but that’s all for now.

    Cheers

To Clarify David, I said FXscript – the original format – will be toast (ie gone). I expect FXplug (and Quartz compositions wrapped as FXplug) to work, but with modifications.

I also don’t think most plug-in developers have been seeded yet. So it will take some time for most, but I also expect a great new plug-in set to be launched around the time of FCP X for FCP X and FCP 7.

FWIW, Apple are clearly doing something with Sequences and the underlying Database that isn’t currently supported in AVFoundation – in AVFoundation there’s no “getnextinterestingevent” which would be needed to build a sequence purely in AVFoundation.

I’m pretty sure that was NOT what I said Walter. I was there too 🙂 Greg listened in and he concurs that was not what I said.

What I said was that FCP 7 projects will import to FCP X by exporting XML from FCP 7 and importing it to FCP X. There is support for legacy XML import. (and apparently import only, we will see).

So everyone stop panicing. That’s not what I said and it’s not what I expect.

We took the concept further with prEdit, where you actually edit “paper cuts” by editing the text (but we’re doing the video in the background) and that works with PPro without needing Soundbooth (and may very well become much more flexible before the end of the month), but of the two Adobe apps only Soundbooth can export the XML format required by Transcriptize.

So, sorry, you’re out of luck at this point. You should have been able to get some value out of OnLocation if you do any shooting – not that I do any shooting any more.

Really you got Premiere Pro and did’t get soundbooth? You got gipped! 😉 I thought that the bundles was PPro, Soundbooth and Encore when you purchased (or, I thought won) Premiere Pro. So I had assumed you had Soundbooth in that package.

David, we created an app from a suggestion by Larry Jordan called Transcriptize that uses an XML file of the transcription exported from Adobe Soundbooth and makes the transcription available in as Markers in a Final Cut Pro XML file.

We’re not quite advanced enough today on the new version – still getting example transcripts for our sample media to work with. (We have had greta co-operation from 3playmedia.com fwiw) Email me direct and we’ll hook you up as soon as it’s ready for testing – definitely before the middle of January as we plan on launching Jan 27th.

    Hi Wayne,
I’m one of the two co-developers of prEdit, and we do think it’s amazing.

Right now you do need the CS5 tools to either analyze the speech, or use it to tie together a human transcription, but that will change with the 1.5 release at the end of January.

I am using it (in my spare time) to cut a documentary we shot over summer. It is the easiest way I know to create order out of chaos with a documentary.
