FCP7 Sequence XML to CatDV to FCPX XML for FCPX import. Not that I’ve tried this but I’ve heard several reports this is working. I suspect third parties will improve this workflow shortly.

September 22, 2011 at 10:44 pmThat addition addresses one of the potential sticking points for upgraders, who were left unable to open old Final Cut Pro projects in the newer version of the software. XML support brings that indirectly, as users can export Final Cut Pro 7 projects in XML, then import them into Final Cut Pro X via a third-party tool like CatDV from Square Box.

September 22, 2011 at 11:48 pmI think CNET had their information wrong. Far as everything I’ve read, this feature isn’t on Apple’s radar. Tho the CatDV thing is very interesting!

September 23, 2011 at 1:10 amApple will leave it to third parties. CatDV is a promising first step. It shows that getting a sequence from FCP7 to FCPX is possible.

October 27, 2011 at 8:49 pmOnly just found this thread, sorry. Steve, yes 7 to X is possible but very much more complex than X to 7. Perfect fidelity will never happen because the two apps are so different. CatDV is fine for cuts only but that’s all for now.
Cheers
Philip
