Can I double check something…

I’m choosing to render with “MainConcept MPEG2 (mpg, m2v, m2t, mpa)” and the profile “HDV 1080-50i”. The “custom” button is greyed out so there’s not much I can change – there’s no reference to Cineform either.

Will this standard template be good enough? If not I can try and get a version of Pro 7 or 8 somehwere.

I would actually consider getting Vegas Pro – so I can render straight to mp4 (my custom button is greyed out). I’ll try the trial version first though.

Yep that’s what I’d normally do but I have about 100 videos like this to transcode!

Was just wondering if there was another option – perhaps rendering to something other than uncompressed avi but that won’t show a noticeable quality loss after it’s been converted to mp4.

These look superb – what I’m aiming for but not achieved yet.

Can I ask what format you uploaded to YouTube? Was it mp4 and did you render straight out of Vegas? Any chance you could post the settings (such as data rate, codec, pass method etc) and the resulting file size?

Oh, and is there a way to know the file size of the HD mp4 that YouTube creates? This would give me a great benchmark when creating videos to host myself.

Do you mean don’t get an *HDD* that uses AVCHD or any type of camcorder that uses AVCHD (i.e. mini DVD, flashmemory etc)?

Any reason in particular why it’s tricky?

Thanks Edward for the quick response.

I am using the Movie Studio version – never mind.

Any ideas why the PAL version is flickering (interlace flicker I assume)? Doing excatly the same as with the NTSC version – rendering to AVI then using Architect to compress and burn. Would choosing “best” for render quality in Vegas help this you think?

Read a few threads here and elsewhere that suggest Architect is no good for burning so I will try will Nero and report back. Also read that checking “reduce interlace flicker” in Architect (which I am doing) actually causes flickering so will try that also.
