I need to render HD footage to mp4s.

My current version of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7.0 won’t allow me to do this (the custom button is greyed out and set to a small frame size)…

Option 1 is to keep my existing set up and to render to uncompressed avi and then convert using Sorrenson Squeeze which I also own. The rendered videos are 5-10 mins long so the file size of the avis will be big (around 40-80GB) so I’m worried that it will take forever to drag them into squeeze.

Option 2 is to buy Vegas Pro and convert straight to mp4.

Any advice which is best (obviously I don;t want to pay out for Vegas Pro if I don’t have to).

    Cheers, Phil.

Try option 1 and see how long it takes.
If it’s still too long, that’s what overnight renders are for 🙂
After all, an upgrade won’t be cheap so why spend the money if you don’t have to.

Yep that’s what I’d normally do but I have about 100 videos like this to transcode!

Was just wondering if there was another option – perhaps rendering to something other than uncompressed avi but that won’t show a noticeable quality loss after it’s been converted to mp4.

    Phil.
