OK I’ll give that a go. Fortunately I haven’t done much, and was waiting for the advice. What would you suggest when it comes to the final output. The HDV is a lot larger than the Mini DV footage. Would it be be best to keep it at 1024×576, and shrink the HDV footage? I’m not too familar with upgrading. Would I need to upgrade the mini DV footage up to the size of the HDV?

As much as I would have loved to hit our actors in the face, unfortunately it was a 5 month year old baby and it was quite tricky to do and we wanted the blood to fall in a specific way…anything I can use with the mr mercury effect?

Have you tried playing with the replace method option? I had the same problem when using the default soft colour – it added a lot of noise. By either using source of hard colour, it seemed to help a lot with the issue.

Thanks for getting back but thats not actually what I was after.

What I want to do is make it so the face is smooth and featureless…meaning, they have no eyes but small indents where eyes would be, and no nose, but a small bump where it should…same for lips…so we’re going for a sinister ‘being’ (that is what we have called the character) look.

So their face is almost like a mannequin but without eyes or any details…I hope that makes sense…So I guess what I’m after is way to replace the eyes, nose and lips etc with skin instead.

Yeah thats fair enough. Appreciate you’re advice.

Out of interest – what is the best way to speed up compression? Even if it means comrpomising on quality?

Here’s a scenario – we did a shoot, where we just filmed 3 guys being interviewed, and lasted around 10 mins. A previous company supposedly imported and gave her the footage there and then. I tried it and it just ended up taking far too long. I mean is it best to give them the uncompressed imported video, or is there a really quick way to compress it to supply straight away. Does compressing it to a different format help or say using a different codec?

I disagree because by changing the codec in sequence settings to ‘none’ it makes the image appear much crisper.

Hypothetically, if I am working with text, I do not want it to lose its sharp edge by being soften using the PAL codec, so what would you recommend, if I have a sequence with mini-Dv footage and text graphics. Thats another reason I have been choosing to not compress the footage.

I’ve worked out that the reason the file size is so big is because I do not render before export. So by rendering, and then exporting separately, the file size is reduced dramatically.

Its worth doing a test on an image of someone’s face. When the sequence setting are set to PAL, the face is soft, and then when changed to None or Animation, the face becomes sharper, and is much better for usage on the Internet, where I want the footage to be crisp.
