I said it is normal thing for ARCHIVAL STUFF to be what ever format, but how is it POSSIBLE 2009 that some broadcasters need their NEW programs on 1″?
So You Chad film and edit a show on HDCam-SR444 and then deliver it in 1″?
Is it even possible to get new spare parts for those machines? And new tapes? -
If You don`t have HUGE amount of that 1080i material I would suggest You to down convert all of it to ntsc in Compressor, and then bring it to FCP for editing.

I did not mean You and Your facility, I meant the Chicago area broadcasters, if they are still using ancient formats for broadcasting new programs. Archival stuff is different case, of course it´s anything starting from 2″ but NEW STUFF?!?! Is it possible even today to buy new 1″ tapes? -

There in no way for G5 to handle AVCIntra.

H264 is NOT an editing codec. You MUST convert all those camera original files to editing codec like ProRes by Compressor. Then, by using same codec as a base for timeline you will get smooth, realtime playback without any hick ups.

I have 12 different kind of LaCie drives with different connection methods, bought during last 10 years. They are in every day video production use. None of them have ever failed, not a single file ever never missed. How is this possible Bob? Are they selling different shit in US than here in Europe? Or am i just incredible lucky?

The following might sound quite extreme for most and I am suggesting this only if nothing else works.
First, is there more than one physical drive in that problematic LaCie case? If not, then open it, take the drive out, stick it in to Your Mac tower as b-, c- or d-drive (not a, thats a mac system drive!) and power up Your Mac. If drive is ok, it should mount normally to Your Desktop. -
Check out this: go to âž” FCP Audio/Video Settings âž” A/V Devices âž” Different Output for edit to Tape/Print to Video, and this one should NOT be tabbed!
