Use a Paint program to create your jigsaw design as pngs, so that alpha transparency is preserved –

Start with a blank frame, save as J01, draw the first jigsaw piece, save as J02, draw the second, save as J03 etc and continue till you have a totally black frame, let’s say J12.

Now put J12 followed by J11 followed by J10 , then J09 etc on the track above your video. Duration of each will depend upon desired timing, music etc.

  • Current options tend to be jpg or png – the latter is commonly used as it preserves alpha channels.

If you can’t use pngs, I guess one workaround would be to export as png then batch convert them to whatever format you want in a paint program.

As Tim says, Ripple will do what you want.

You can use Auto Ripple, but I don’t recommend this as sometimes you can move things which are out of sight further down the timeline without realising it and get in a jumble.

I prefer Post Edit Ripple, which means you have full manual control of things.

When you move something, you’ll see a grey arrow above the timeline. This is Vegas noting exactly how far, and if you then hit Ctrl/Shift – F, everything level with, or to the right of the moved event will move by that exact amount. The same applies if you delete something.

Have a practice and get the feel of this tool. Don’t forget, you can always Undo if something you didn’t intend happens.

If you want to ripple a single track rather than “everything”, just use “F”.

  • Extremely well put together David.

Can’t stand that “showbiz” wrestling, but the editing was tight and dynamic.

My only comment is when you used some effects such as making the pic red, or applying the TV lines effect, I would have used this more briefly for a few “impact” moments – rather than keeping them on continuously for what seemed too long.

Well done – you should get plenty of work.

  • Good one Tim. Hadn’t thought of using nesting for that!

  • The most you can get in one hit is 1200%. This is by maxing the Velocity envelope and Ctrl Dragging the Right edge to the left, which has a max of 400%. The two combined make 12x.

    Rendering then repeating is the way to go beyond this. (12 x 12 x 2 = 288 x)

Either have auto ripple enabled, or everytime you move the main track use post edit ripple (Ctrl/Shift F).

This will move everything at or to the right of the moved event by the same amount.

Has she accidentally docked the Text window? It’s easily done. If so, it can be dragged back up using the dots just inside top left of the window.

What you’re describing is default behaviour for chapters.

To play just a single Chapter, drag the original media separately to the menu, open its time line and drag the in and out flags to the beginning and end of the chapter. DVDA recognises that it is the same media and doesn’t double up.
