  • Edit Generated Media Question

    Folks,

My daughter is doing a project for her Girl Scout Silver Award using Vegas v6. She inserted a Text Generated Media on the timeline and while editing managed to move the edit window “off screen”. Whenever she/I select “Edit Generated Media” the edit window appears to open but then quickly disappear toward the bottom of the screen.

Any idea what is going on and how to correct this?

Dropping another piece of Text Generated Media on the timline behaves the same way when I try to edit the Text Media.

    Thanks!

Has she accidentally docked the Text window? It’s easily done. If so, it can be dragged back up using the dots just inside top left of the window.

If it’s off the screen, you can always use the Windows commands to move it back:

ALT – Space – Down Arrow – Enter —> will enter MOVE mode
Now use the Arrow keys to “Move” the window – start with the UP arrow.

Actually what appears to be happening when I try to “Rdit Generated Media” is I see the Windows title initial flash up but then it looks as if the Window is immediately minimizing itself (to some unknown location). It is not really being located “off screen”, to the best of my knowledge.

My first thought was that it was being docked somewhere, but I don’t think that is the case either (I’m not sure it is even a dockable window).

If I drag a new piece of generated Text media to the timeline it normally opens an edit window to allow the default text to be modified. This is not happening either. (Text media is place on the timeline, but no visible edit window)

    Additional thoughts?

I just verified on another Vegas installation that the Edit Generated Media window is indeed dockable, although on the Vegas installation with the “hidden” Edit window I do not see a tab in the docking area (lower left portion of Vegas v6 screen) that indicates it has been docked.

So I’m still searching to determine why when I attempt drop a piece of Generated Media or edit a piece of Generated Media on the timeline no Edit window is visible.

    Thanks

Yes, it is dockable. But it is also possible to locate it “off screen”.

Here’s something you can try: Change your video settings to a HIGHER resolution. See if you can now see where the window is opening to, and then move it back to the normal area of the screen. Then you can reset the video settings back to normal.

Worst case, follow the other advise: Hold down CTRL-SHIFT and start Vegas which resets everything back to “default”

    Ed,

The graphics card was running at the highest resolution, so I decreased the resolution, launched Vegas, and I could then see the Edit Generated Media window. I then reverted the video resolution back to the higher value and all is well.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Glad to hear it all worked out.
