Jigsaw effect question
Posted by Tinfish on July 24, 2005 at 8:52 amA few months ago I asked on this forum
if it was possible to create an effect in Vegas
whereby single jigsaw pieces (from a video clip)
could be layed down one after the other until
a complete picture is built up of the video in question.Somebody kindly pointed me in the direction of a forum
with some free scripts, but I never did find the
‘jigsaw’ effect I was after, and Ive since changed PCs
and lost the link to the forum. So if anyone has a direct link to a specific ‘jigsaw’ effect script
or software plugin, I’d sure appreciate it.Thanks,
Tin

When you get the answer for creating this effect, would you please post it? I’m sure there are others, like myself, who would appreciate how to produce this as well.
Thanks in advance.

July 25, 2005 at 3:41 amI’ve made a similar effect which you can see here:

and a shorter version

Unfortunately I don’t have a VEG file for this. It was so big (several hundred video tracks) that I had to continually render to new tracks as I went along.
If you want to do something similar, just get a picture of a puzzle (with less pieces, maybe 50 or even fewer). Use the Bezier mask to cut each piece on a separate track. Then you can use the 3D motion to make each piece independently move in or out of the field of vision. If you don’t have to render to new tracks, you could save the VEG file and then change the photo at will. I rendered first in uncompressed AVI to prevent degradation but still got some in the final output. There is probably a much easier way to do this but this is how I did it with Vegas 5.
Good luck.

July 25, 2005 at 3:48 amUse a Paint program to create your jigsaw design as pngs, so that alpha transparency is preserved –
Start with a blank frame, save as J01, draw the first jigsaw piece, save as J02, draw the second, save as J03 etc and continue till you have a totally black frame, let’s say J12.
Now put J12 followed by J11 followed by J10 , then J09 etc on the track above your video. Duration of each will depend upon desired timing, music etc.
