Sounds like you need to re-associate veg files with Vegas on your rebuilt computer.
Open any Windows folder and go to Tools/Folder Options/File Types, scroll down to VEG and Click Change to tell it that these should Open with Vegas – browse to the Programs folder and select the Vegas.exe.

You could use either – the composite envelope is track based – applies to everything on the track, and opacity can be varied over time by double clicking to insert pivot points and dragging up or down. Event opacity only applies to that event and stays the same percentage throughout. For a logo, being a single event I would just drag its top down to whatever level was required.

Definitely – I think the transitions that Spicemaster can create are very “organic” and can be anything from very subtle to “eyecatching” depending on what you’re after.

They are two different tools. Spicemaster basically gives you an open ended range of transitions based on greyscale gradients, with control to soften and add edges, textures, colours etc.
UltimateS contains lots of script routines to drastically shorten the time needed to perform some functions, plus some lower thirds and other backgrounds, apply film effects, etc.
Excalibur is a similar tool, combining a huge range of functions.
Have a look at the list of what they contain, and decide which you want most.

The Transitions in V6 have a read out (box in the middle of the overlap) showing their duration – drag the overlap till 1.00 is displayed. For finer control use the mouse wheel to zoom in first.
Now, regarding rendering times – these are almost certainly caused by the fact that you are using an unusual format for both source and output – possibly there needs to be decompression and recompression in this process. Others may know more about this, so feel free to sdd comments …..

Hi Juan. You may find it confusing if you are not familiar, but Vegas has always had the simplest method of any for applying transitions:
Place two video events on the same track … drag one so that it overlaps the other. You have created a crossfade which lasts for the duration of the overlap. To make it longer, overlap more.
To change this crossfade to another transition, select a transition from the Transitions tab and drop it on the overlap.
To respond to your comment regarding rendering time, we need more information about the factors which may make rendering faster or slower …
e.g.
What format is your material?
What format are you rendering to?
What are your project settings?
Which effects have you applied?
What specification is your computer?If, for instance, your material is standard DV, your project settings are standard DV and you are outputting DV, and no effects or titles etc are applied, there should be no video rendering necessary.

There are two dotted lines running along the Trimmer. If you pick up from above the top line, tou have Video, from between the lines, both and below the bottom line Audio.

If you have V6 installed the update will install over it, no numbers necessary.

Vegas is software only – won’t work with cards like the Raptor.
It was the first real-time editor using software, and continues to get faster as PC specs improve.
It has always been a real-time editor, though, which is what really matters, unless you’re in a fast turn-around situation such as news gathering.
