Not all ‘plugin’ crashes are third party plugins, they can refer to internal parts of FCP that you won’t see unless you inspect the package contents.
There was an Apple software update that addressed a similar issue a while ago, so try updating everything.

If you are editing in 1080p then it should be set to none. For interlaced then it is upper/lower depending on your standard (I’m in the UK so I don’t know about the US)

Yes it shoots progressive. You really want to convert the files to ProRes or similar first though as you will have to do a lot of rendering otherwise.

Yeup if you are getting the big orange block or chequerboard appearing then something is up with your media.
It has happened to me, a file gets corrupted, Photoshop files get saved in the wrong format or just me being dumb and forgetting to hit save on something.
Try duplicating your project and then remove half the different media in each. See which one crashes. Then do the same again with the crashed project (OK, 2 and 3 files) etc
Just one thought, have both your machines got the same graphics card?
