If its a toss up between two, take the advice from an engineer at a hire company in England who now recommends using Blackmagic cards as they were tired of people phoning up with problems with Konas
My experience
1) Sometimes when the machine boots it won’t recognise the Kona2, thus FCP defaults into DV mode
2) VERY patchy when connected to a reference signal
3) In three weeks of editing, another editor couldn’t layoff accurately to tape.I’ve got a rock solid Blackmagic and I’ve just added another to my shop LOL!
All seriousness, as has been said before, these things are now so cheap does it really matter?
Just bare in mind the Intel switch possibly in January – I’d hang fire until Steve’s keynote 😉And if you want to talk of support, who’s supporting my KonaSD card?
Just trying to get the playing field level

Might be more of a problem if you didn’t speak up. They might not like hearing it, but you wont be in trouble for telling the truth. if something sucks, say so.

[Walter Biscardi] “we don’t even use them here, we just have strict timecode guidelines which eliminate the need for the countdown.”
Maybe in the US, but the tape would probably get rejected for air here in the UK. I still clock all broadcast shows with a 30″ clock into part. Who knows, that will probably change with tapeless delivery.
Out of interest, it took me 5 minutes to make one in motion 😉

Why? this is where your problem starts
Dragging a 16:9 sequence into a 4:3 makes FCP sort out the aspect ratio for you.You have
1) A correct sequence in 16:9 anamorphic This would be used for say, broadcast & DVD generation
2) A letterboxed 16:9 sequence ‘within’ a 4:3 sequence. If you need an ‘unanamorphic’ sequence to play on the web for example, you then need to expand the x ratio. You can do this in Quicktime Pro quite easily

Juliano,
Just to cut this one off at the pass, this has been discussed at length here and then discussed again at length. Try a search on this and the capture board company’s forums.

Michael,
The storage is cheap, but with Intel happening early next year the quad doesn’t add up for me.
