Could this be the start of FCPs rise in the world of UK post where the uptake has been slow?

The BBC have announced that the Factual & Learning dept is hoping to have 60 FCP stations running in house by 2007.

F&L is one of the largest users of external post houses in the BBC.

Bad news for post houses – good news for freelance editors?

Nice to see the Beeb catching up with us LOL !

Not good news for Post houses though i would have thought if the Beeb are pulling 75% of its work back in house.

    NIce one Peter…

Wanna see my picture on the cover
Wanna buy five copies for my mother
    Wanna see my smilin’ face
On the cover of broadcast magazine

    not quite the same ring.

You reckon they’ll have their own onlines?

It strikes me that the main reason people put down FCP is that they try to put it in an Avid workflow (ie onlining on symphony etc) and it doesn’t work very well…”FCP is rubbish” is the cry.

Lets hope that the BEEB take the onlining seriously (which means using online editors not just bumping FCP operators to Online editor status) I reckon this is going to be the critical area.

    Congratulations on your cover shot

Out of interest do you know what hardware they are using for the onlines?

Great news for FCP. Great news for Apple. Fantastic news for freelance editors in the UK. Facilities houses will still find work…….BAD news for Avid. It’s about time they had a kick in the butt.

Sorry Avid, but your systems are overpriced compaired to FCP systems. I was an Avid editor at Granada Media, so I’ve had the benefit of working on both systems, and I know which one I prefer.
