It might be related to Windows 7 but I’m not entirely sure. I think the best option at this stage is for you to open up a support case by either calling in or emailing our support department. Once of the tech support specialists can assist you in understanding, and hopefully resolving, the issue.

Hi,

Well firstly you should download the latest update to the BCC software from our web site at borisfx.com. Just download the current trial version and it will automatically find and use the license that was installed on your system.

Secondly, you need to manually select a texture file – you can do this in the filter by selecting a preset texture or by using a layer from the timeline.

Well based on your description of the problem, all you have to do is to generate a keyframe for the tracker target. To get it to track correctly you should be selecting the “play every frame” option in the FCP menu. Here’s a tutorial that might help:

Another poster to this forum mentioned that they were seeing field rendering issues (jitter) with the Boris Title Crawl/Roll filter. I suspect that the issue that you are seeing is related.

Apple have reproduced the issue in their labs and they are working on a solution.

Hi Brett,

I don’t think you misunderstand my suggestion but I guess that’s not really going to work in your situation. So … here’s another one:

• apply RED / Avid FX to the base layer, tweak the effect in the RED / Avid FX UI and then apply back to the Avid timeline and export a quicktime reference file
• reimport the filtered, rendered quicktime reference file and cut this over the filtered clip. Then create the animated supers over the rendered video background.

I would like to add that while you can apply multiple instances of the filter to a clip in Avid, the problem is that one instance of the filter cannot speak directly to the other instance (because unlike BCC there is no way to instruct multi-filter start/mid/end in RED or Avid FX) so while the final render is correct, the preview in the composite window is only displaying the current instance of the filter and thinks that the background is unfiltered.

This problem might be related to AVX 2.0 but I’m only guessing.

Hi Sarah and Glen,

Just wanted to let you know that we are still looking into this issue.

Sarah – thanks for sending the project – it really helps to have this. In looking into the project closely, I noticed that you have a 1 point edge style applied to 23 point text – this might cause text jitter on a roll. Could you please try changing the text size from 23 to 24 and disabling the outline style to see if the text still flickers on your system?

Also, if you want to see what the Deflicker option is doing, zoom in on the text – say 200 percent zoom in the Record monitor. Then toggle the Deflicker option on and then off. You should see that with the function disabled, the text appears sharp but aliased, and with it enabled the text looks a little blurry but smooth and anti-aliased.

While I do not know how long it has been this way, I am seeing the same thing on my systems that you describe seeing on yours, which is that RED / Avid FX does not display in the plug-in Composite window the result of other instances of RED / Avid FX that are on the timeline. It can display other filtered results, such as BCC or FEC, but not RED / Avid FX.

To work around this, you can perform all of the work in a single instance of RED / Avid FX. Instead of applying one instance of the filter separately to both tracks, just apply a single instance to the top track and pull up the bottom track into RED / Avid FX and you will be able to see the result of both filtered track in the Composite window without having to leave the plug-in user interface.

Glad to hear that the steps I listed helped.

Regarding the track motion blur … there are a couple of things to consider:

• how fast is the track moving across the frame – the greater the pixel distance travelled per frame across the comp, the more blur that is applied to the frame

• what is the shutter angle – a wider angle will generate more blur

Modifying these items will change the level of motion blur that is applied to the result. I hope this helps.

Hi Glenn,

Here are the steps to use the Light Wrap in Boris FX:

• add the Light Wrap filter to the track that has alpha
• make the filter the current selection by clicking it
• in the control panel for the Light Wrap, enable the Use Background Track option by clicking the checkbox
• in the timeline, twirl down the BCC Light Wrap main track to disclose the filters sub-tracks
• the sub-track labelled Background contains the media that will be wrapped around the alpha edges
• click on the video input icon (I think by default it is set to V1) and select the type of media that you want to wrap

It helps to switch the view mode from Normal to Wrap On Black while you are tweaking the Light Wrap settings – this way you can see the Light Wrap before it is composited with the alpha media. Don’t forget to switch the view back to Normal though before moving on.
