The workflow that I would recommend is to stabilize the clip, then render it, then export the clip as quicktime, which you should reimport into the editing timeline. Then make the transition using the stabilized quicktime version of the clip.

There is a workaround but it involves using Adobe Illustrator to merge the paths and the BCC Extrude EPS filter instead of the BCC Extrudes Spline filter. Here’s how to do it:

• copy the mask paths from After Effects into separate layers in Illustrator – copy/paste should work
• fill the objects with color
• save the file from Illustrator as Illustrator EPS version 8
• in After Effects, replace the BCC Extrude Spline filter with the BCC Extrude EPS filter
• import the saved Illustrator file into the BCC Extrude EPS filter

We have discussed the use of multiple spline masks in AE and I suspect this will become available in a future release of the product but for the time being, the BCC Extrude Spline filter can only extrude one mask path shape.

Check out the Graffiti and RED tutorials for title animation. If you need to sync to audio, you can import an audio track and display the (scrubbable) audio histogram for that audio track in the timeline, to which you can animate the text by sliding the starting keyframe of any track.

The Type On Tab (click on the face of any text track and this tab will appear in the controls window) has some wonderful auto-animation features that I think you’ll really enjoy working with.

Hi Max,

Here’s what I would suggest:

• start by applying the BCC LED filter to the image clip
• set the LED Gap parameter value to 2
• set the LED Size parameter value to 6
• set the Glow size to 10
• set the Glow Brightness to 25
• set the Brightness to 220

Then add the BCC Colorize Glow filter on top of the BCC LED filter
• set the Blur Amount parameter value to 10
• then adjust the value of the Intensity parameter and you should have a nice glowing result.

If you have a preexisting alpha channel, you can always use the BCC Glow Alpha Edges filter, or you can generate some alpha using one of the Keys and Matte category, precomp / nest, and and then use the BCC Glow Alpha Edges filter to generate a nice looking glow result.

Hi Tom,

Can you tell me please what filter are you seeing the problem with? I just tried using the BCC 6 Rays Puffy filter on an SD clip in Motion 4 that was moved off from the start of the timeline and was able to successfully animate the filter parameters. Then I went back and tried this in Motion 3.0.2 and had the same result. Either the problem has mysteriously vanished or I am using the wrong filter.

I have however experienced in the past the non-animatable effects issue that you are experiencing so I’m assuming that it may be affecting some but not all of the filters. Please feel free to contact me off list about this at peterm@borisfx.com.

Hi Mike,

I would like to encourage others to offer their feelings on the differences between these solutions and meanwhile here’s a couple of major differences that I noticed in the rendered results from each:

• the BCC filter can generate a total locked down camera result – the built-in filter in FCP (SmoothCam) cannot achieve this
• the BCC filter offers an array of post transform image sharpening options, which generate a sharper image result with better definition than that of the built-in filter in FCP

I think you may have misinterpreted my response to your post. 🙂 I suggested that you might want to call into support and ask them to handle this for you only because I thought that might be the quickest way to resolve the issue as it was not something that I had a quick solution for myself.
