  • BCC LED Filter: How to make a realistic glow

    Hello

The BCC LED Filter does make a very realistic effect. I am working on some new promos and intend to create a series of compositions wherein client’s content will appear to be showing on billboards, buildings, etc.

I am curious as to which lighting effect I should experiment with to add a realistic “glow” to come off the simulated LED signs; since several of the background shots were shot at night. I have looked thru the Filter gallery but didn’t see any specific filter that seems like it would work.

Thanks for taking a moment to read this post; I appreciate any help you have to offer.

    Hi Max,

    Here’s what I would suggest:

    • start by applying the BCC LED filter to the image clip
    • set the LED Gap parameter value to 2
    • set the LED Size parameter value to 6
    • set the Glow size to 10
    • set the Glow Brightness to 25
    • set the Brightness to 220

Then add the BCC Colorize Glow filter on top of the BCC LED filter
    • set the Blur Amount parameter value to 10
    • then adjust the value of the Intensity parameter and you should have a nice glowing result.

If you have a preexisting alpha channel, you can always use the BCC Glow Alpha Edges filter, or you can generate some alpha using one of the Keys and Matte category, precomp / nest, and and then use the BCC Glow Alpha Edges filter to generate a nice looking glow result.

    I hope this helps.

    Peter.
