  • Hi Marcus,

That’s quite odd … I haven’t had it fail when I’ve followed the steps that I outlined for you. If you’re using the standalone version then I might expect this result but if you’ve applied RED to a media clip in a host and you can’t regenerate the thumbs in the Library Browser then I suspect something else might be going on. With that, I suggest you call into support and review this with them on the phone. The support line is 888 77 BORIS.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

  • Hi Marcus,

You need to ungenerate the thumbnails and then regenerate them. Here’s how:

    • With the Library Browser open, observe the row of icons that are directly underneath the preview image at the top left of the browser window. The ones that we are most interested in are the two that are in the middle. One should have a plus sign and 4 squares. Click the U key on the keyboard … notice the plus sign changes to a minus sign. Click this button and the thumbnails will un-generate. Then click the U button again and the minus sign will change to a plus sign … click the button with the plus sign to regenerate new thumbs with the filtered image from your timeline.

    I hope this helps,

    Peter.

    Hi Marcus,

We have several filters in the BCC package that should handle this situation for you, including the Match Grain filter that you already mentioned:

    • BCC Match Grain … matches the grain from a source image clip and applies this to a target image clip
    • BCC Match Color … matches the color and luma values from a source image clip and applies this to a target image clip
    • BCC Film Process … offers matches to many popular film precesses, such as bleach bypass etc
    • BCC Vignette … generates oval-square color and / or blur vignettes
    • BCC Grunge … blends textures from a source image clip and applies this to a target image clip … also includes the ability to customize the texture (either the factory installed or your own custom textures) in many different and interesting ways.

    I hope this helps,

    Peter.

    Hi Sol,

Avid MC 5.5 is a 32 bit host, while Avid MC 6 is a 64 bit host. BCC AVX 7 plug-ins are 32 bit, while BCC 8 plug-ins are 64 bit. 32 bit plug-ins cannot be used in a 64 bit host, therefore BCC AVX 7 cannot be used in MC 6. If you already own BCC 7 then you can purchase an upgrade to BCC 8 – you might want to contact someone from our sales group to help you with that. You can reach them via email at sales@borisfx.com or by phone at 888.772.6747 or 617.451.9900.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

  • Hi Max,

The only thing that can exist in the Path track of a Spline Track is a Spline Object so you can’t add Containers to nest the splines. There are two options available (that I know of) to properly nest the shapes:

    Automatic:

    • select the

    • duplicate the master spline path track that contains all of the spline object sub-tracks from your EPS file – make a copy of the track for each of the groups that you want to create (for instance, if the imported EPS was of the letters ABC, then you should have 3 identical copies of the spline track
    • twirl open the spline tracks to reveal the spline objects that are nested under the path track
    • delete the spline object sub-tracks from each spline track so that each master spline track has only the spline objects for each letter and no duplicates
    • you can then nest all of the spline tracks into a 3d container

    I hope this helps.

    Peter.

  • Hi John,

I’d suggest a call or email on to support for the fastest response to this type of query (email: support@borisfx.com, phone: 888.772.6747). I’ll forward this message on to one of our tech support staff members and ask them to get in touch with you to help sort this out.

    Cheers,

  • Hi Mike,

The answer to this is to switch the filter’s Shatter effect Tome Mode to Manual instead Automated, and then keyframe the manual Time parameter value.

    • Enable Shatter effect by checking the Use Shatter option
    • Twirl open the Shatter Deformer group
    • Click on the Time Mode pop-up – switch from Automated to Manual
    • Go to the 3 second point in your comp and set a keyframe for Manual Time – leave the value at 0
    • Go to the end of the comp and set the Manual Time value to something greater than 0 (try 2 to start)
    • Play back the effect and revise the manual Time value to generate the look that you want

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi Dionne,

    Try this:

    • twirl open the Bullseye track to reveal the face for this track
    • click on the Face track
    • look in the control panel … there’s a pop-up labelled “Key” – set this to something other than “No Alpha”

Please let me know if this solves the problem.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi Marcus,

Thanks for responding. What I can tell you with regard to RED is that it is in a continuous state of active development and receives regular point updates to deal with changes in target hosts and newly discovered issues which have been reported from the field by end users. RED will is also slated to receive major upgrades … the next major release of RED will be RED 6 and I can’t comment on exactly when that will happen, nor can I offer any comment on any new features / enhancements to the product … all I can say is that it’s going to happen.

We have been issuing minor updates to Media 100 with feature improvements and support for new hardware and I have no reason to believe that this will stop. I can’t offer you any other insight on the roadmap for Media 100 though as I’m not involved with that product line but if you email me directly at peterm@borisfx.com I can put you in touch with someone who might be able to help.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
