That would depend on the version of FCP and RED – the answer is probably going to be that you should upgrade to the latest version of RED if you are using a current or recent version of FCP.

Why don’t you use the BCC Optical Stabilizer instead … it was designed precisely with this task in mind.It’s in the BCC Time category and you just apply it to the clip that you want to stabilize, then analyze the clip and decide whether you want to lock down the shot (stabilize) or simply smooth the camera motion (smooth) via the Mode pop-up. If you choose stabilize, you can also select whether you want to lock down just the translation (xy) movement or also the rotation and zoom.

Hi,

I believe you should be able to install and run FX 9 and Graffiti 5 in Vegas 8, 9 and 10, however, for Vegas 10 you’ll have to use the 32 bit version as neither FX nor Graffiti currently offer support for 64 bit hosts. We’re working on 64 bit host support and expect to have that available very soon but it’s 32 bit only at the present time.

Hi Doug,

Firstly, thanks for using the product and I’m glad to hear that it’s easing your workflow.

So … to answer your questions:

1. Have you tried switching the Link to Original Source References radio button from it’s default, which is “MAX/AIF Only” to Any? I suspect that if you do this then all of your files should automatically relink as expected.

2. If you are using the Avid resize utility to keyframe the position of elements in the composer window, then you are correct in assuming that this is not supported. However, if you have BCC AVX and BCC FxPlug then you’re in luck, as you can use the BCC DVE filter to keyframe the position of the element in the composer window and all of that information is preserved in the transfer from MC to FCP.

3. AAF Transfer 2.0.4 supports the transfer of both tiff and psd graphics with alpha so I’m not totally sure why yours are not arriving as expected. Perhaps it’s related to my answer for question 1 above? Perhaps you could try that and let us know if it helps?

Hi Jonathan,

To create the look that you have in mind, they these steps:

• create an “L” spline shape using the pen tool – leave it as an open 3-point spline shape
• set the track shape type to 3d extrusion
• in the control panel for the extrusion shape, set the fill to off and the border to on
• offset the angle by setting the spin parameter to 45 degrees

this will create the angular “L” ribbon shape – to animate it follow these steps

• with the track selected, select the pen tool again
• at the start of the timeline, set the bottom of the shape to it’s starting point by dragging the last point of the shape
• move to the end of the timeline
• reposition the point that you moved

now when you scrub the timeline, the shape will flow on.

So it seems to me as though you have everything firured out except for the glint … and from what I know, I can’t think of an easy way to achieve this effect without using an application such as Boris RED, which has systems in place that we designed to handle exactly this type of scenario.

With Boris RED, you can animate a shape (such as a glint or a paint blot) along a user defined path, which is exactly what you are trying to achieve.
