    Hi,

You might first want to read through this tutorial, which explains how the spline masking system works in Boris RED. Then simply apply this knowledge to a filled spline shape that is used to generate a colored bar instead of a mask.

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi,

Well, to be blunt, there is no way that you are going to be able to extrude anything other than an Illustrator EPS file with that filter so you should stop right there. So … the solution for you is to use the BCC Extruded Spline filter. Set the Path Type pop-up in the filter to Wedge and then twirl down the PRIMITIVES group and set the Wedge Start and Wedge Length parameters to values that generate the exact shape that you need. I think you should have no problem in achieving the result that you have in mind.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi,

I’ve included a link to a good place for you to start:

    https://www.borisfx.com/download_files/BCC3_AE_tutorial.pdf

It’s an older tutorial and even though it demonstrates BCC 3, but it’s all still valid and applicable to using BCC 7.

If you have more questions after you watch the tutorial, please let me know and I’ll assist you in any way that I can.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Yes, there is. You’ll have to play around with the lighting controls a bit but you can certainly achieve that look.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

Well if you need that little triangle bit and already have that as an Illustrator / EPS file then the problem is solved – just follow the same directions that I gave you but instead of using the BCC Extruded Spline filter use the BCC Extrude EPS filter. The same texturing rules apply.

Does that seem to make sense?

Otherwise you can use the BCC Extruded Spline filter as I mentioned already but instead of using the stock rounded rectangle shape, create your own path using AE mask tools and select that as the source for the extrusion in the filter.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi,

Instead, you might want to try this:

    • create a text layer and generate the text that you need
    • create a solid color layer – set the color of this layer to the color that you need for the text background
    • precomp the text and the background layers and disable the view of the newly created precomp
    • create a layer and apply bcc 7 extruded spline to the layer – by default this will generate an extruded rectangle
    • In the controls window, set the BCC Extruded Spline Material Count to 4
    • twirl down the front material control group
    • set the Front Texture Layer pop-up to use the precomp with the text and background

    I hope this helps,

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi Brian,

As long as the image is in a valid Quicktime format (Tiff, PSD etc) then it should be readable by the filter. It shouldn’t have to come from Photoshop but for non-QT format stills using Photoshop to resave the file into a readable format is a recommended workflow.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

As far as I know, the only way to change the font across multiple instances in the timeline is to do this individually in each instance of the text effect.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
