The modeling and animation of the title in this piece can be generated quite easily using the BCC Type-On Text filter. Are you struggling with a particular aspect of generating this result?

Hi Jeff,

The animation that is in the linked video can easily be done with the BCC Type-On Text filter. here are the steps :

(1) apply BCC Type-On Text filter to a source clip
(2) set the desired text in the text generator window, which opens automatically when you apply the filter, and then close the generator window
(3) enable the Type On option
(4) in the Type-On Reveal group, set Rotate Y value to 90

Now as you scrub through the timeline, the letters will automatically rotate on. No keyframes are necessary to generate this type of effect. If you need more help with this please let me know.

This is by far the best way to perform screen replacement in any supported host, including Avid Media Composer. You can download a free trial on the Boris FX web site and there are free tutorials right on the site to explain how to use the plug-in to perform the screen replacement.

Hey Ron,

Sorry for the huge delay in responding … I don’t check this forum every day and didn’t know that you had replied.

So in regard to what you’re seeing, here’s the scoop :

(1) The FX Browser in After Effects has not been programmed to do what you’re asking, which is to pull up an alternate layer source so what you are seeing is actually expected. Yes, this works in Avid and in OFX hosts but not (currently) in After Effects.
(2) I’ve discussed this issue with engineering and they have told me that it’s possible to program the filter to do this so I’ve submitted a request in the engineering database for this to be done. It will become available as a free update to BCC 10 users.
(3) In the meantime, you can use the standalone FX Browser filter in AE to preview all presets from every filter and transition to aid in selecting the preset that you want to use (the standalone includes the background feature). Once you find the preset that you like, you delete the standalone FX Browser filter, apply the transition that you want and load up the preset.

Hi Kinga,

You should be doing this within the BCC 10 filters, not within Mocha Pro. To do this, first download the trial version of the BCC 10 filters for your host … you can access them at https://www.borisfx.com.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed BCC 10, apply the BCC Pyramid Blur filter to a clip. In the effects control panel, you should see a button labelled launch mocha. Click that button to launch mocha from within the BCC Pyramid Blur filter. From there, set up create the mask shape that you need and close mocha (it should save automatically.) The result of this should be that you have isolated the blur to within the mocha mask.

Keyframes in mocha are in the Dopesheet tab of the mocha UI.
