Hi Ronald,

You need to apply the filter to a shorter clip in the timeline. The FX Browser will assume that you want to filter the entire length of the clip.

When you state that you tried trimming the track I’m assuming from the result that you describe that you mean you moved the trim heads in the FX Browser … right?

Hi Steve,

There could be several reasons why an EPS file might appear black in Boris RED and it’s really hard to know the exact cause without seeing the Illustrator file first hand. So, with that, I’d like to ask you to please send the file to us (you can send it directly to me at peterm@borisfx.com) and we’ll take a look to see if we can understand why this is happening. Also, keep in mind that Illustrator 8 is the supported file format, not 9.

Hey Jimmy,

So if you’re using Boris RED, you can convert any text object into a spline shape and move / warp the splines just as you might in Illustrator or Photoshop. There are also many filters in Boris RED that can be used to deform / warp a text object … for instance you can use the Ripple or Bulge filters to generate a pinch / bloat effect.

If you would like to post an image example of the specific warped text effect you’re trying to create it would make it easier for me to point you toward some more specific example of how to achieve this result in RED.

To get the flare to completely disappear you need to adjust the value of the Threshold parameter … higher Threshold values will cause the flare to disappear with lower pixel values in the image.

Hi Chris,

The Obscuration Map feature in the Lens Flare 3D provides you with the ability to generate Lens Flares that will automatically pop on and off the screen depending on the underlaying pixel values. For example, you can set the LF3D so that it will disappear when the light source is over an area of darker pixels than the set value in the Threshold parameter. You can elect to use either RGB values or alpha values from either the filtered layer or a secondary input layer in the timeline.

Here’s the basics of how to use the Obscuration feature in the BCC Lens Flare 3D within Avid MC:

– Apply the Lens Flare 3D to a source clip in the MC timeline
– Go to the Effect Editor window to access the filter control parameters
– Set the Obscuration Map layer pop-up to the layer that you want to use to hide the flare … either the filtered source or a layer below that on the timeline
– Position the Lens Flare Light Source so that it’s over an area with RGB values that are to be used to obscure the light
– Set the Obscuration Type pop-up to RGB
– Adjust the Threshold parameter value until the light disappears
– Move the light source so that it’s over a lighter area and make sure that the Lens Flare is visible
