Hi,

The auto-update function was a necessary function in RED when you were confined to generating text within the static text generator window, however, when we added the on-screen text function we removed this feature as we felt that most people would use the on-screen text generator instead of the static text generator. With the on-screen text, you can see all changes as you make them over the composite window with full auto update.

If you prefer to use the text generator, and in some cases it is necessary (when importing text, for instance), you can still see the update before you commit the text to screen by manually clicking on the update button.

Hmmm … well the only thing that I can suggest based on your set-up is that you download the trial version of BCC 4, which includes this filter. The trial version will operate for 15 days free of charge without any watermark.

Hi Kay,

Normally I’d suggest using the BCC Glint or BCC Glitter filters but there were problems with getting some of the OpenGl based filters (such as these) to render in certain hosts so we did not include then with RED 4. So, instead of using those filters, I suggest using the BCC Rays filter from the Generators category to produce the effect you are looking for.

To create the effect, add the BCC Rays filter to the layer that you want to affect. From the preset pop-up select the smallStar setting. Position and scale the star so that it is located in the desired location at the desired size. Go to the Rays tab and animate the intensity parameter so that it appears for only the frames that you want to see it happen.

And as an FYI, it should be noted that although the filters from the BCC 3 package are indeed included in RED 4, the included filters will only operate within the RED 4 user interface and cannot be used in any other host without RED. If you need raw filters with the host user interface then you will have to purchase BCC as a separate product or as a part of the bundle included in the Motion Graphics Pack.

What platform are you on? Have you tried converting the imported EPS file to splines to see if that bypasses the crash that you are seeing? Can you send me a copy of the EPS file? If so then please zip it and send it to me at petrem@borisfx.com.

Well actually you shouldn’t need to do that, as BCC 4 is included in RED 4, which means that you will already have the filters. Having said that, f you still want to install the BCC 3 filters into RED 4 that should work just fine.
