Hi,

I don’t think there is a full blown manual on use of FX in FCP however I’ll see if I can assist you in creating the effect that you are struggling to understand.

• apply Boris FX to the background video clip in the FCP timeline
• double click the video track to which you have applied the effect to being it into the source monitor
• click on the FX banner to enter the FX user interface
• select Filter:Motion:Corner Pin Tracker
• on the Corner Pin Filter, click on the video monitor icon on the track to open the motion tracker setup window
• with the timeline marker at frame 0, position the targets so that they are over the motion that you want to capture
• In the Controls Window, click on the green target button to analyze the motion of the clip
• close the motion tracker setup window
• set the media that you want to pin onto the background by clicking on the media icon on the corner pin tracker layer in the timeline
• drag through the timeline and you should have the pinned effect
• if you need to make adjustments to the recovered motion, you can reopen the motion tracker setup window at any time by clicking on the tv monitor icon on the filter layer

Hi James,

This should be fairly easy – and you shouldn’t need to use a keyer to generate the alpha as the particle filter should take care of that for you.

• apply the FX filter to the title clip
• enter the FX user interface
• click on the face sub-track of the title in the FX timeline and in the controls window make sure that alpha is enabled by selecting it from the Key pop-up
• apply the particle effect to the title track
• keyframe the particle animation
• click the apply button to leave the FX user interface and re-enter the P Pro timeline

Hi John,

I suspect you have an older version of BCC 5 – the initial batch that we created had a flaw that prevented the filters from being recognized by AE CS3 – to resolve the issue all you need to do is to download the latest installer from our web site at http://www.borisfx.com/downloads and you should be good to go after you load the filters using this new installer.

Hi Bill,

What is the version number of BCC? I’ll need the exact version so that I can be sure of the problem. I recall that there was an issue with the initial 4.1 release that had this problem, the plug-ins were not being recognized by the CS3 host and we provided an update that fixed this issue. Perhaps you don’t have the revision and this is the cause.

Anyway, send me the exact version number and I’ll be able to provide more info.

Hi Bill,

What font are you using? And what is the size of the font? If might be related to a screen/printer font issue – is the font correctly installed? Also, do you have the 1:2:1 deflicker option enabled (it’s in the project settings dialog box)? Enabling that feature should help too.

Hi Bill,

Well, if you have BCC 4.1 then it should indeed work with AE CS3 – but you’ll need to reinstall BCC so that AE can find the filters. However, having said that, you should bear in mind that the version of BCC that you are working with is no longer current – you should really consider upgrading to BCC 5, which is the current version of the product.

Hi Tony,

Because it’s a new host, you’ll have to reinstall in order for FX 9 to be seen by CS3. You should make sure to download the latest installer from here http://www.borisfx.com/updates. You need Boris FX 9.2.1 for the CS3 host.
