While you will not get a pristine, artifact-free HD result from uprezzing this type of video source, assuming that you use a video application like Adobe After Effects, Apple Motion or Final Cut Pro, you can download a free trial version of Boris BCC 5, which includes the BCC UpRez filter and see if the result is good enough. Hi Gary,

If you use Boris RED 4 as a plug-in inside of AE CS3 then you can place the person on a plane, place the logo on a cylinder and place the plane and the cylinder into a 3D container. Then you can rotate the cylinder and the logo will wrap around the person just as you wanted it to.

Hi Chaim,

First, you need to upgrade. There is a free upgrade on our site for you to download – this will eliminate the problem with generating the errant auto-recovery file. Once you have upgraded the software, you’ll need to remove the errant auto-recovery file to get rid of the messages. To do that, you first have to find it and then delete it. This is done via command line in a shell.

Here’s steps.
1.Download Boris FX 9.2.1, either the Updater or the Try and Buy.  Install it.
    If this fixes the problem, then stop here.  You’re done.
 
2. Launch Terminal.
    Type:
sudo find / -name BorisFX_autorecovery.bfx
Copy and paste anything it finds that matches this into TextEdit or elsewhere.  You can select the text and type command-c.
 
sudo find / -name BorisFXG_autorecovery.bfx
Copy the text describing any more found items into TextEdit or elsewhere.
 
Now that you have the paths to these files, you can use Finder to browse into the folders.  When you get to an app package, you’ll need to right-click (control-click) and choose Show package contents.  Then begin looking into folders inside that.  Eventually you’ll get through all the folders and packages to the path where the autorecovery file is found, and you can just move it to the trash.

After that you should be good to go. Please let us know how you make out with this solution.

With the advent of Apple FCS 2 a new API (application programming interface – it’s the language filters use to plug-in to a host) was made available to plug-in developers and the old API was discontinued. The new API is Apple FxPlug (previously FCP used the Adobe AE API). The plug-ins that were written in the AE API are incompatible with the new FxPlug API and therefore all plug-in developers had to re-write their software (at considerable expense) to get it to work in FCS 2.

So … this means that the plug-ins for After Effects, which use the Adobe AE API and the plug-ins for Final Cut (which use the FxPlug API) are incompatible. They are, in short, different products, just as the plug-ins for Avid are different (they use the AVX API) and the plug-ins for Flame/Smoke are different (Sparks API).

What this means to you is that you must purchase product for After Effects and Final Cut separately.

I hope this explains the situation and why you need to purchase BCC for AE and for FCP as separate products.

Hmmm … I highly doubt that you’ll be able to run any current version of Boris FX software in Premiere Pro 1.5, I’m not even sure what version we have that is compatible with that (quite old) version of Premiere … can you please tell me what is the EXACT version of Boris FX that you are trying to use?

I’m not sure what to tell you it’s possible that this is a field order issue with the Avid host but I’m not 100 percent sure – I don’t have RED 3 set up and can’t check that for you. Another option is to download RED 4 and see if that solved the problem – if it does then you need only upgrade RED to make it work.

BCC (Boris Continuum Complete) and FEC (Final Effects Complete) will both plug into RED. That will give you about 300 special effects filters. You’ll need to use the After Effects version of both products and install them into RED.

You might want to call in to the sale line as I really don’t have any helpful information about purchasing product. Ask for Kevin – he’s very knowledgeable and will work with you to get the best possible bundle deal.
