Here are the step:

• launch the standalone AvidFX
• open the Library Browser
• import into AvidFX the composition from the Library that you wish to change
• change the media
• select File>Save Project Copy To Library – click on the Enable Preview checkbox in the dialog that appears before you click the save button

That’s it. 🙂

Hi Ben,

The Adobe AI EPS format definitely includes support for alpha transparency.

Boris Graffiti is a sub-set of the program Boris RED, and indeed, there are features in RED that have not been included with Graffiti, such as video on the face of a text track.

In Graffiti you can have an image element, but not video, on the face of a text object – to do this follow these steps:

• create a text track
• create a 3D plane track
• set the media for the 3D plane to an image file
• twirl down the 3D plane track to reveal the mask sub-track
• drag the text track onto the mask sub-track of the image 3D plane track

Hi Pierre,

Well the word from engineering is that the effects will not automatically come forward that easily. There are two workarounds for the problem:

(a) rename the Graffiti 5 plugs to Graffiti 4 and the timeline should come forward

(b) install Graffiti 4 along with Graffiti 5 and maintain both sets

I strongly suggest that you go with option (b) – if you need a Graffiti 4 installer to do this please contact me off list (peterm@borisfx.com) and we’ll see about making that available to you. All new effects should be created using Graffiti 5 and you should only really use Graffiti 4 for maintaining the old timelines.

Hi Jeff,

The installers for these limited time freebie filters have an expiration date and I know for sure that the Cartooner filter installer is at this stage timed out. The only way around this is to purchase the filter for the new system.

I am not absolutely certain about this but I think that the effects made using the static generator might not come forward from Graffiti 4 to Graffiti 5. At least not automatically. I’ll check with engineering to make sure though and I’ll send along another note on the subject with the next couple of hours.

Hi,

Well one such way to do this would be to reload the effect into AvidFX standalone (not as a plug-in), then change the media to V1 and V2 (or whatever you want it to be) and then resave this into the Library Browser. Then you can regenerate the thumbnail for that effect.

Hi Max,

In FCP you can apply RED to any clip in the timeline without specifying that it is a composition or graphics clip / track. RED exists as a filter and transition in FCP so you simply drag a clip into the timeline, then drag the RED filter onto the clip, click on te RED banner in the controls window and you are into the RED user interface. Create the effect and click on apply and you are back in FCP.

Hi,

There are two types of EPS files – vector EPS and Photoshop raster EPS. Only vector EPS files can be extruded. Graffiti will only accept Illustrator EPS files that have been saved as Illustrator 8 (or earlier) format. If you have a more recent version of Illustrator, you must choose the export option and export as Illustrator 8.

If you are not seeing the EPS file after import, it may be that the color of the artwork is black – have you checked that?

You should be able to achieve the effect that you are trying to create by following these steps:

• launch Graffiti
• you should se two tracks by default, a background and a text track
• click and hold the text icon at the right side of the text track in the timeline
• select EPS as media type
• click on the track type and set it to 3D extrusion

Hi,

To achieve this effect, do the following:

• Add the PixelChooser filter to the mask track ot the clip to which you wnat to add alpha
• The PixelChooser output should be set to Alpha Channel
• Twirl down the PixelChooser track so that you can see the PC Layer sub-track
• Add the media that you wish to use as alpha to the PC Layer
• Click on the PixelChooser track to access the parameters i the controls panel
• Click on the Matte tab
• Enable the Use PC Layer Track button – you should now have a track matte

It sounds like the default keyframe interpolation is set to constant … try setting the default interpolation for something other than constant, such as linear, and it should behave as expected.
